Severe back pain after doing exercise

I'm a 20 year old male and today at the gym I was doing squats followed by jumping into the air. As I was doing so I felt a sharp pain in my lower back which prevented me from continuing. After performing various stretches as advised by a trainer it felt better but was by no means perfect. However, as I got home and lay down for a rest, as I got up again I found I could barely walk, the pain was too much. This was even after I had taken Ibuprofen. My question is, will the pain subside enough, lets say in a day for me to be able to walk around, for example to the shops and is there anything I can do to hasten the ability to do this? Or is there a more serious problem of which I am unaware of?

It's possible that you may have either pinched a nerve or perhaps slipped a disc. The best scenario would be that you pulled a muscle - given time (without exerting yourself) you should heal up just fine. Since I am not a doctor, I would suggest you call him in order to find out how he wants to treat your injury. In the meantime, continue applying cold packs to the affected area to help control the inflamation. You take care!

You may have herniated a disc by the pain you describe. I herniated 2 just standing up from a squatting position. I would make an appt to see a doctor. They can start you on prednisone to help shrink it and hopefully go back into place if that is your problem. I just herniated a 3 rd disc and have had several surgeries including a fusion. Don't let it get out of hand, hopefully it's not a herniation but get it checked out especially if you can't walk.
