UPPER BACK PAIN WHEN I WAKE UP.... DESPERATE FOR HELP

I AM 29 yrs old....For about 10 days now I have woke up with an extremely stiff painful upper back and excrutiating pain when I try to get out of bed. Immediately I take Ibuprofen but the pain persists for 2-3 more hours......

The pain I am feeling is.....
between my shoulder blades in the back with some shocking pains into the back left ribs and moves to the front of the chest ONLY ON THE LEFT SIDE IN THE FRONT  OF THE CHEST....(not that i know what one feels like but it seems like i am gonna have heart failure every morning)

Why am I saying heart??? Well my reason is because it hurts to breathe from the minute I wake up and last for hours. The more I move the more painful it is and I if I try to touch my chin to my chest its unbearable......

I have been baffled by this pain and every day have considered going to the ER but as I read on the web it seems like a lot of people experience this pain and have not had any true medical relief so I figure why spend the money  for no answers. And as far as a bad mattress, mine is only a year old. Seriously considering trying to sleep on the couch and see how it goes.....

In the past I have had neck and back herniated disks but this is unlike any pain I have experienced before....

Hello again,
Thank you for your answers, that will help in the FIGURE THIS OUT process of elimination...WOW...you have seen the gambit of things...now...hurts to breath was in your 1st post and elaborated on in the second....now, something comes to mind here so  I      re-read both...there is something called pleursey and it sounds ALOT like I felt when I had it 35 years ago....It is an infection in the lining between the lungs and tissue of the lungs...or as my dr said..a cold in the lining....It is so painful and it does seem as tho it is a muscle thing or a past injury FLAIR.....as that does happen...A flair, especially with all you have been through....As far as anything rupturing due to the herniation, yes that can cause those pains but they are usually accompanied by other symptoms that you do not mention....Arthtitis symptoms especially since you had the injuries could be the cause of the pain and as well a rheumatoid factor could be involved, now sometimes these are not always linked to older age....Fibromyalgia is a condition of PAIN and I have found that it is worse prior to weather changes....it comes and goes and moves from spot to spot randomly especially if you need to do repetitive movements as you said you do....There are a # of other symptoms that go along with this condition....ten days....I would see your primary and suggest pleursy...another thought is this.....sometimes a broken rib can radiate pain as you write of...Do you cough and if so...any coughing fits just prior to onset of pain...say 2 days? ...
Does a hot shower or soak help the level of pain....what about a heating pad since this is not a fresh pain and or injury....If it were you would use ice.....
This might sound nuts but oh well....Sometimes with all you have been through physically...our bodies re-align themselves and it might not be to our advantage...as in your hip...If you walk different than you did prior, that will put a strain on other parts because you use them different...even though it has been years...One thing I found about the hip area....when sleeping...it sure does help to have a pillow between legs or  there for  the bent one to rest up on if you are on your side and one leg straight....I agree with you...desperate for help and I do hope that you will find some of that here...I found one thing that helped and it sounds funny but....someone who REALLY understands!!!!!! ....WE are not alone...Have a wonderful Blessed Day!!!!    GOD BLESS!!!!    loimmarmar

To answer some questions... my sleeping habits have not changed I have to sleep on my right side or stomach due to back/left hip injury. I do not use a pillow between my legs nor have I changed pillows. I sleep on the same side of the bed and rotate my mattress regularly. No change in stress and no new activities.... I am a server so I have constant repetative motion for 4-10 hours at work 5 days a week. It is not hard to breathe only hurts due to the pain. if I apply Pressure around where i feel the pain it does not make it worse, but any type of moving does. The pain feels very deep and definately seems to be muscle related.

As far as upper back I mean from the neck to the bottom of the shoulder blades and it seems to go to both blades. As far as I know my cholesterol is good and has never been a concern.

YES I SMOKE BUT I HAVE FOR 10 YEARS. And I have herniated disks from L2-S1 and some in the c-spine(i think c3-c5). In addition I had a right shoulder injury which coincided with the neck injury and dislocated and tore muscles, ligaments but that was also 10 years ago

Hello,
Welcome and I know...what a reason to be introduced...let us FIGURE THIS OUT!!, Although plenty of questions will be ask...You can reply with the answers you choose or ponder on them or just go from info provided....You know, EXPERIENCE not just a text book!!!   OOOKAY!!
First of all....Take an aspirin...lo dose, 81 mg...fine, now the questions...Did you pull a muscle several days prior to onset....Have you changed your position as far as sleeping habits? do you use a pillow between your knees if you sleep on your side, did you change pillows? did you change sides of the bed?, have you flipped your mattress lately? change in stress level? have you started golfing, tennis, volleyball....any type of repetative motion recently? Is it hard to breath..... or ......painful to breath because of pain? What about .....to touch....does a small amount of pressure applied cause the pain to increase...or ......the pain is on the inside.....Do you have indigestion AT ANY TIME?
When you say upper back...shoulder blade or below? Is it only in the center? How is your cholesterol Many things can cause these symptoms that is why we need to become detectives....think about and ponder on these things and maybe next time I will ask you the usual question that all drs seem to want to blame everything on....smoking! Have a wonderful Blessed day!!!!    GOD BLESS!!!!!!     loimmarmar
PS TAKE the pill with tea, coffee, hot chocolate....anything hot as that MELTS the meds faster and they get to your blood at the same time not some here and then there!! Also herinated disk....different pain than ruptured disk.....Keep me updated....
