Painful small lump under left shoulder. Is it just a muscle knot ? Please help !?

I have this small (slightly painful most of the time) lump under my left shoulder blade. Sometimes the pain can increase and radiate down my arm but it's nothing unbearable. On a 1 to 10, I would say the pain - at its worst - is a 4 . The lump is not really visible but you can feel it when you push down and move back and forth in that area. Sometimes, when I stretch that area (turning my neck to the right and looking down), I feel it pop/snap (just a lil bit, not always). Also sometimes, when I push my neck neck towards that area (i don't really know how to describe that), I feel like a pinch in that area. Would just a muscle knot provoke all those symptoms? Additional details: I am athletic (soccer, running) and I also lift weight. I have cut down a lot on weightlifting due to this condition though. Weightlifting seems to affect it. I've had this thing for over 6 months now and I am seriously losing my mind. Someone help please !

Your  mum should of seen a doctor for a diagnosis not have you asking a bunch of strangers on a web site. Just because something sounds like its the same thing someone else has does not make it the same and the only way to know for sure what something is is to have it looked at by a real doctor in person

Liz, did you ever find out what it was? I am having the EXACT same symptoms right now and now sure what I should do. I know this post is old and you may not even see it, but if you do, please contact me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

The CT scan for my chest came back okay, but a CT scan on my neck showed I had a nodule on my thyroid.  Fairly common and only about 10% chance of being cancerous.  I went for biopsy, and the doc told me that he believes I have a nodule on my parathyroid and a smaller one on my thyroid.  Get the results next Thursday.  Parathyroid is a whole new ballgame apparently.  Calcium and parathyroid blood tests came back normal, but showed I had inflammation (7 when 1 to 3 is normal).  After my biopsy, I believe my neck pain and maybe collar bone pain is from the nodule.  However, that doesn't explain my sore shoulder blade, breast bone and now middle-upper back bone. My doc sent me for a bone scan and I get those results back next Thursday as well.  I am so scared but trying to keep busy so I don't dwell on it.  Will update my results and explain my pain/discomfort more.

Almost 4 months ago I felt this weird type sore throat, but it felt more like pressure against something in my upper right neck/throat.  I went to the doctor and was told I have acid reflux.  Taking meds and the weird feeling is still there.  Fairly minor, mind you.  Since then, I've had a slight pain in my right collar bone and soreness in my right chest and under my right shoulder blade.  If I sneezed, my right chest/lung area really hurt. It felt like my right chest/lung was raw...almost like when you have a bad cold.  The collar bone pain has all but subsided, and my chest soreness is pretty much gone, but the should blade pain has worsened.  It feels as though someone is poking their finger into the inside of my shoulder blade.   My husband noticed a kidney bean sized lump on my inner edge of my shoulder blade last night.  He's been applying RubA535 and Arnica cream but not sure if it's helping.  I've convinced my doctor to give me a CT scan.  I had a chest x-ray a month or so again and it came back normal. I should mention that my arms are tingly, especially when I lie down on my back.  I am SO scared right now.  Just lost my mom after her first chemo treatment (heart attach even though docs said heart was strong with no problems) for breast cancer which she beat (no spreading, chemo only precautionary).  I am only 45 and am so very scared...I will advise the outcome after I get my results.  I guess in this case, no news would be bad news...

Yesterday I was extremely active.  Did alot of cleaning and lowering and raising my arms.  I woke up this morning and it hurt to the point of screaming.  I thought it might have been the way I sleep, but it has never been this bad.  At this point, I have put heat, cold, pain medication and all of that relieves it for about 10-15 minutes (I am being generous with the time).  I have to lean to the right with my left arm not being able to lower below my bra area.  When I push the area in my back (which is in between the shoulder blade and spinal cord) it tends to feel better.  But since I have gotten up and had my coffee, the pain went from extreme pain in just the back to extreme pain in the shoulder blade area down my left arm.  Is there something I should do or should I just go to the doctors to get it checked out?  Please help me!  Thank you in advanced.  :)

I hate to raise alarm or cause undue fear, but if I don't write this I will not sleep.  My sister-in-law (who had smoked a great deal and was prone to lung cancer but as we know anyone can get it) had a painful lump in her back, thoracic region.  Her arm was numb and she could not write.  She had been going to the same Dr. for a year, had massage, pain killers, you name it.  I told her to go to a different Dr. get another opinion.  Cause: metastatic lung cancer.  Who knows whether she would have lived if she had been properly diagnosed at first.

My Wife is having the same problem(lump under her left shoulder) from last 3 months and muscle relaxers are not working as expected and she is having side effects like lake of sleep during night times So we are going to PT from past 3 weeks and they r trying different excerice and none of them are giving good results and she massaging the pain area for 10 min every day that gives a temp releaf for few hours.

I guess the worst case doctors might give a steroid (injection) to remove that lump which will solve the problem,But i guess steroids are not good.

Hi,

It feels more like a hard string. Cold seems to alleviate the pain but the I can still feel the it. I'm going to try some of the things you mentioned and see if there is an improvement. Thanks a lot for your input.

Hello,
Welcome here and now for this pain....NO, you are not even CLOSE to losing your mind...just remember...YOU ARE WHAT YOU SAY!!!   now, do you do a GOOD stretch warm up before and after exercising or sports? Is it a lump right under the skin that moves around when you feel it, like say a smooth stone or is It kinda like as if it were a pulled muscle and or nerve that is now being pinched sometimes, like when you move your neck...all those could have the radiating pain down the arm...Now at this point I must say that most people do know of the pain in the left arm of those who have had a heart attack...so I'm glad that that is not the case here, as it would have happened by this 6 months later time frame and QUIT feeling the area as the feeling with the fingers (palpulate)of it several times a day can make it more sensitive and keep it activated. Have you tried heat in that area or a hot shower to relax it...Do you have any other health problems...have you tried a sling type stability for several days to rest it and allow the swelling to go down then slowly do the warmups...Do not do them to the level you did them prior,,,if you did then(AND YOU SHOULD)....you need to work UP from the beginning ...Have you tried the band exercises for the arms as this also works the shoulders.. have you taken any otc pain meds and do you use suppliments? I want to say that you know....age can be a cause, but then I am only 53, so what would be the causeation for me?   LOL...Let us know what's happening...I hope for the best and have a wonderful Blessed Day!!!!      GOD BLESS!!!!!     loimmarmar
