extreme kneck and back pain

I am 21 years old and have been dealing with kneck problems for 5 or 6 years and the doctors all tell me that I cannot have an mri or catscan until i have numbness in my hands and fingers.  because i'm young they dont look into what might be wrong with me.  I have extreme pain and stiffness in my kneck 24/7.  It is a constant battle with all the cracking and popping and grinding in my kneck and some in my back, and also a little in my knees.  my main concern is my kneck because it is constantly giving me migranes.  I try not to force the crack, but when I move my head in any way I'll automatically feel the need to do so, and most of the time it works to relieve some pressure. I dont even really force it either. I cannot bend over without pressure to my head and I absolutely cannot lay flat on my back without extreme lower back pain and pressure to my head to the point where i cannot hear anything. I'm not fat or overweight.  All of the doctors that i've seen have not taken my seriously, and I was wondering what you might have to say.

just another thought, I know you are 21 but you said you believe the md's are not taking you seriously.  Would you have someone who could accompany you to the md for support and advocacy perhaps?  like a parent or older sibling?  Maybe  this would persuade an md to listen to your complaints more seriously.  Just a thought.

hi,
How many md's have you been to?  I would go to another md and tell him/her is going on, just becuase you are 21 doesnt mean your cant have spinal issues or anything else.  It is the doctor who will request the MRI from the insurance company yes, but the insurance company is ultimately the ones who will say "yes or no", not your doctor.  But you have to get an md who will give justification for one.  Go to another md, his rationale for not giving you any diagnostic tests is ridiculous.

good luck
