I have the same thing but I'm younger only like 15. I was squatting heavy weight.  Then my neck poped an then I immediately put the weight up and went to the nurse.  The nurse said that every is fine. Then I went to the doctor where they took x-rays everything was fine. But u still feel uncomfortable popping in my neck.

Mine goes beyond crackling, sometimes there's a thud and you can feel it with your fingers if you put them on my neck, I freaked out my family by letting them feel it lol, in constant pain, for the last four years but I too wouldn't have surgery unless it was to keep paralysis or something dreadful from happening as I too have read too many failed ops

It means the cartilidge is wearing out or you may have some arthritis.  Listen, don't worry.  My neck has been doing this for years (I'm 52) and I had the MRI and some discs are messed up, but I am doing OK (so far).  I get some stiffness and soreness at times, but I would not get surgery unless I was desperate.  I have talked to too many people who got those cervical fusions and are sorry because their pain is worse.

If you don't have a lot of pain, don't worry about it.   The doctor told me that we all have some spinal degeneration as we age.  My son, only 21, has some already.  It happens.

Hi!

I have the same issues with my neck... moving it side to side or up and down, as well as sudden movements, cause it to crack.

I have some slight disc bulges in my neck that were discovered during my first round of MRI's in 2005. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but it may.

If I were you, I'd probably see my doctor and see what he says. He may recommend X-Rays or MRI's, or even Chriopractic care.

Good luck!
