Hey , sounds like your having a rough time. I understand exacty whats up, i to live in pain everyday. I have a few questions though. How can you order your meds online if you dont have a script? My Dr. Says he is scared to presrcrib me to hard narcotics suchs as oxycodone or Feyntnol. If anyone can help, it would help me out a ton.

I am doing a little better. Glad to see your doing well, my doctor is sending me to a pain specialist guess theres only 1 in the whole area? I live in fairfield ca. the bay area, and theres only 1 pain doc? I checked it out and, yes there is only 1???? I am waiting for a call from him, then off to see what we can do? I've been told a pain doc is the ultimate for pain relief, i hope so he specializes in it...lol. I went to work wed, thurs. I am a supervisor so I don't do any lifting or physicaly demanding work, did ok but am a little stiff this morning. Pain is about a 5 on average, lot better than 8-10. Began taking some prednisone, bad stuff, but seems to help.  hoping to be med free once I begin seeing the pain doc, been told people go there barely able to wipe their own butt, and come out ready to run marathons! I guess I will not be completly med free since he will be injecting meds into my nerves and some muscles. I know a guy who works with my wife, bad motorcycle wreck, spent 3 months in the hospital. Thoght he'd never be able to live a real life again, due to pain. after seeing the pain doc 2 times he's fully pain free and has never had to go back again. He has not been back in 3 yrs and is still pain free, all this after his reg doc said he would have a lifetime of severe pain, and be on meds for the rest of his life. He says the pain doc saved his life!!!!!! I am ready to go see him, a little nervous to really get my hopes up though? I know it will work because the idea is to fix the areas of pain only and not have to stuff your body full of horrible meds forever!!! As far as the dilated (? spelling) 4 mgs should be plenty so becareful with 8mg, thats a little scary, the stuff is 5 times more powerful than morphine!!! so on 8mgs your the equivalent of 40mgs of morphine!!! Be careful take the smallest amount possible, my doc said the stuff is really bad for you and didn't want to send me home with it. If it works for you thats great, but small dose's and be careful!!!! Thanks for your support, keep in touch.

P.S. hope you continue to feel better!

For starters, DDD and Facet Syndrome. Then, I fell at work and that resulted in 2 bulging discs and an annulus tear. I have to keep on. What are my other options?

Just wondering how you were doing and an update. I noticed you said the hospital gave you 3mg of dilauded every 2 hours. Did it work better than the oxy you are on? If so, ask your FAMILY doc. to prescribe it. My surgeon released my pain control back to my family doc.because he won't give more than hydro 750..and that is if he is in a good mood. I was on MANY percocets a day, had more injury, more pain, opiate tollerent. Anyway, my family doc. gave me dilauded script for 8mg every 6 hours yesterday. The starting dose is 4mg, but he lets me have 8mg. My pharmacy only had it in 4mg pills so they gave me 112 4 mg. I could have taken 2 pills, but only took one because I read up on it and got a little nervouse, and it helped ALLOT. Took the pain from a 9 down to about a 3.  I took 2 this morning and am allmost completely pain free. The pain turned to just pressure and numbness. WAyyy better. So ask your doc.

I have had pain like this. It would be so bad that NOTHING would touch it. I took every pain med out there and it just doesn't matter. It doesn't work. They throw pain meds and muscle relaxers at me after I tell them it won't work. I have these "spells" when my back responds to nothing. My back always hurts but pain, I can take, debilitating pain with no relief is a different story. I take Hydro 7.5 1-2 TID PRN, Lyrica 75mg BID and I have muscle relaxers but they are so not useful. I also take Xanax. That does help with muscle pain. My body is weird and responds the exact oppisite to the way it is supposed to. These meds keep my pain at a level that I can carry on. I take my meds @ 3:30 am, up at 4 to walk for an hour, 5 I am in the floor doing all of the exercises I learned in PT, shower at 6, get daughter #1 up at 6:30 for her to get ready for school. Time for daughter #2 to get ready for preschool. Get them to their schools, go to work and that is where I am at until 5, go get daughter, fix supper and/or softball practice for daughter #1, home again, bath for daughter #2 and get my 2 girls down for sleep. It is about 9pm. Take meds again and go to bed and get up and start it all over! When in accute pain it is ok to take it easy, that is what you are supposed to do, but it is up to you when it lets up. Accute 1-7 days max. After that, YOU have to get up and get going. I have found something that helps the process along though, PREDNISONE! Try it. Lots of side effects but very cheap and most docs don't hesitate to use it.

I filed for SS..but that will take over a year. Make sure you check with your state disabilty as you asked. I knew nothing about ours here untill last week. As long as the doc. says I will be disabled at least 90 days, I qualify. Wish I would have known that 8 months ago. It's only about $260 a month here, but since I lost my apartment and moved in with a friend...it pays the rent....lol...Plus it qualifies me for better state insurance and other help. So anyone reading this....check with what is available with your state agencys. It might just save your butt!

Hang in there. If you are lucky, you will have surgery a week after the MRI. My last one was that way as an emergancy. If you have surgery, you could be back to work 3-6 weeks after. Good luck. I will say...DO NOTHING after surgery. I didn't do anything but take my half mile doc. ordered walks and ended up with a new herniated disk. Then just a passenger in a car got hurt worse while turning. SO BE CAREFUL so you don't end up out of work as long as me. It's been since last Sept. and I'm looking at another 3-6 months if I have this fusion...and I haven't even seen the special spine surgeon yet.

....So now I had to convince the surgeon and my doc. I wasn't there JUST for pills...there was something wrong. I got treated BAD. Even the ER one day gave me 6 vicodin 500 and said "your lucky i'm giving you these!". I was so embarressed but could hardly walk again. The next day my doc. started me back on the low percs. Then I had to wait to see the surgeon a week. He ordered a MRI and blood test to rule out recurrent herniated disk and diskitis. Sure enough...after all the embarressment..I was right...a "NEW HERNIATED DISK" with possible nerve impingement. Then, 2 days after having the MRI, I got hurt in a car....I had a buldging disk above that I felt herniate, and it felt like something happened above that level also. My surgeon says I have no herniated disk even though the radiologist says I do, and completely ignored my claim of a new injury since the MRI. He recommended a 2 level fusion that I have to go far away to have. Meanwhile....Neither one of my docs. agree with disability. I was hoping all this would be over after surgery in Feb...this year so I could work. Guess not. I lost my job, have No family at all to help, had to quit college(I am only 37), and ran out of my savings. Now I have to prove AGAIN I was hurt again since the last MRI said I was.
I guess I am writing all this to let you know you are not alone, and things could be worse.  Hang in there. I know exactly what its like to be miserable just sitting, standing, and laying down 24/7. You have compassionate docs. that seem to be trying to releive your pain with the oxy etc....I have to fight for my percs that only work about 3-4 hrs tops, and if I take more, my doc. thinks i'm trying to just get high, which is way far from the truth. I told him that if I have to go through this again, I just want some quaility of life out of misery, even if it is only 2-3 hours at a time. Good luck friend....hang in there..it could be wayyy worse.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like what I went and have been through. This back pain sucks, what is just as bad is the physchological/mental part. After hurting my back last Sept.  I was in increaseing pain. Then one day I just couldn't get out of bed. I needed help from my roomate just to get away from my bed. I couldn't stand and cried and hollered like a baby when I did. The pain at rest got just as bad. Having back problems for years and no insurance, A few emergancy trips to the ER, I was treated like I just wanted pills by the ER. This time I had state insurance, and had to convince my family doc. I had another herniated disk. Finally, after MRI showed VERY LARGE herniation and compression of the thecal sac, got better meds for pain. Started at hydrocodone 500, 750, lortab, Norco, percocet 5/325, then percocet 10/325.
I was never out of pain till the latter, and 2 every 6 hours..but I had to take 2 every 4 hours because they only worked about 4-5 hours most. I wen't through hell getting tappered off before surgery because the surgeon said not even morphine would help after surgery if I went in tollerent to that much. After surgery, the BIG shooting pain down the left leg was gone. But sometime within 2 weeks post-op it all went down hill. I was having pain down BOTH legs. (continued)...
