pain in the middle of my back

I have a severe pain in the middle of my back. Sitting up right for long periods just seems to make it worse. I felt around were it hurts and it seems to be two precise spots around my spine. pressing anywhere around it doesn't hurt till you press those exact spots. Anyways they cause me problems laying flat on my back for sleep. I usually have to lay on my right side to take the pressure off that area. I lay on my right side as my left hip hurts as well. My problem is that my right shoulder is now causing me pain. Any ideas what is happening to my back. Is there a bed that may allow me to sleep on my back again?

hi everyone, I AM PAIN FREE
i have a good news for you, i think i found what is the problem, i think it is just because of the stress, maybe you ask how related!? well as for me i never had this kind of pain until two month ago, since two months ago i started to go to TAB clubs and i started to play Pokies machins, by passing time after nearly two weeks i started to have kind of funny feeling in my middle of back nearly behinde my heart, but i didnt take it serious because i didnt realize the cause of it, but anytime i didnt go to TAB and no play i used to get better, after one month i started to have middle back pain and waking up with pain from bed in morning everyday(exactly as you explained it here), suddenly last week i thought that maybe i better stop going to TAB and see what would happens, and it worked! i am pain free now after one week and now back to normal life, thats why i am sure the stress is the reason for this pain and it is not muscular problem or bed problem, when i go play i get to much stress and that makes this problem step by step. try to find what makes you stress more... good luck

I have one position I can usually get to sleep in. I have this one stiff pillow I stand on end and throw my left arm over. There are two other pillows as well. One is real soft and and the other was made for people with CPAP's. I stack those two pillows to support my head and then after all that I lay on my right side. Generally I can get 3 to 5 hours sleep that way. There are times when I have gone a couple of days without sleep. I dread the nightly battle to get to sleep each night.

The VA has scheduled some physical therapy for me, but they are real stingy with the number of visits. I thought about paying for it on my own so I can get treatment longer. Still I have gone thru it before. Right now, any hope is better than no hope.

I am sure you have tried this, but I will mention it just in case.  Try using a bunch of pillows to prop you in a comfortable position.  When my back bothers me, I sleep with a pillow under my knees for a few nights, and it usually helps some.  You can also work with heat and ice.  They are effective for 20 minutes out of each hour to reduce swelling, but you can keep them on for comfort.  Use whichever is most comfortable. Also consider things like diet, weight management, and exercise.  We all hate to hear it...but extra weight is a killer on pain (and doesn't help with diabetes, either), and often pain that is associated with muscles or joints does better the more we move.  Just make sure you do it gently.  Maybe some physical therapy, too (bet you've tried that already..but, again, wanted to mention it.)They sometimes have great ideas to help with your pain control.

Yes, you are right, the right doc makes a world of difference.  And, sometimes you just need to be persistent to get their attention!!

Best wishes finding a combination that works for you!

I have been to two different pain treatment centers and several doctors with no definitive diagnosis. Right now I am being treated by the VA. I also just recently found out I am a diabetic on top of everything else. Maybe it's just a matter of finding the right doctor. I have seen TV medical biographies where the people would go through several doctors before finding a doctor who could help them.

I would take a trip to your primary physician.  There could be something more significant going on with your back, and, it could be your bed, but you won't know unless you go to the doc and have them check you out. Paying for a 'look see' at the doc is a lot cheaper than a new bed.  Best wishes finding a cause, and a speedy recovery!

Welcome to the site and to the community. You have come to a place where people are very supportive and have a lot of information. I would like to point out that
as the information on your left says, this is only my personal advice and you should always consult a doctor with problems first. Also, while it is
understandable to want information or advice about medication/s you should never alter or stop without speaking to the prescribing doctor first.
The advice I give is from personal knowledge and or experience, this does not mean I am a health professional or that my advice should be
taken over a health professionals. If I am not able to help, rest assured there will probably be more people to help.
