Back Pain.

I have had lower back pain for years.  Sometimes worse than others.  It worsens when I do physical activities such as lifting, vacuuming, etc.  Standing doesn't affect it;  it is usually worse when sitting or lying down - I awake many nights with pain.  I had an x ray when came back clear.  I have seen a chiropractor with no results.  My fear is cancer.  From what I have read, that seems to be the answer to that type of pain.  Could anything else cause back pain like mine and it not be cancer?
