Discectomy for sciatica

I'm wondering how long folks waited to have surgery for sciatica. I'm at the 3-month mark and my symptoms are still excruciating. I'm a very active person and can't stand my new almost sedentary lifestyle. Any thoughts?

Hi. Thanks for your response. I'm so sorry to hear what you've gone through. I'm curious what type of treatment you had with chiropractors. My neurologist cautioned me against manipulation for my condition. I hope you get some relief. Thanks again.

I waited through 2 years of everything from Physical Therapy to acupuncture, from pain management MD's to chiropractors.  It has been 2 years since the surgery, and I have nerve pain FROM the surgery that is worst than I had before.  Wait as long as you can, and avoid fusion. I had ALIF fusion of L4/5 and L5/S1.
