MRI lumbar spine

FJK
Recently had MRI with these results -
At L4-L5 level, there is disc desiccation, disc space narrowing, mild disc bulge and facet hypertrophy with bilateral foraminal stenonis.
At the L5-SI level, there is disc dessication with moderate disc space narrowing. Grade 1 anterior spondylolisthesis, disc bulge and facet hypertrophy with bilateral foraminal stenosis. There is a small left paracentral focal disc protrusion at this level, which contacts the S1 nerve root.
I have tremendous pain in right hip down to ankle. Haven't been able to sleep in a bed for six weeks. Sitting upright is the most comfortable position. My doc is recommending a pain specialist for epidural injections.
Can anyone give me some insight on exactly what the MRI results mean?
Thanks

bilateral foraminal stenosis is narrowing of the canal caused by nerve compression on both sides of the spine. Most patients with foraminal narrowing or bilateral foraminal narrowing do not experience continuous pain, but rather have pain when they assume certain positions or engage in certain activities. Constriction of the nerve roots leaving the spine in the foraminal canal is typically caused by bone spurs, a herniated or bulging disc, scar tissue, arthritis or ligament thickening. Foraminal Stenosis can also be caused by enlargement of a joint (the uncinate process) in the spinal canal.
                        (BUT...read below for the protrusion)....

dessication....extreme drying of the disc...drink LOTS of water to re-hydrate!

facet hypertrophy.......arthritis or degeneration

bulging...disc is slightly out of place

protrusion...(same thing as bulging). but this area is where your disc is pressing on the nerve...which is the cause of your leg pain

Spondylolisthesis is generally defined as an anterior or posterior slipping or displacement of one vertebra on another. (discs)
