Neck and back pain

I had Chiari 1 decompression surgery 6 years ago and I am now starting to experience some of the same symptoms as I experienced before the surgery, especially the pain.  Is it able for this condition to return? And I also have pain throughout my whole back, could this be caused from my chiari?  It hurts my back to lay down and hurts my neck to sit up, even after only a few minutes, being a full time student this becomes very frustrating. Please Help!

HI..well we do have a list of drs that the members r compiling from their own drs names...we can only suggest u look at the list and research the drs...many times we do have to travel to get to a true chiari specialist.

Are u in the Kaiser Insurance in CA?...I know u may have limitations as to whom u can see if u do, but there r chiari drs with in the Kaiser network.

I hope u stop by the Chiari forum : )

Thanks Kalvin....I do try to stop by, but can miss a few chiari related  and really appreciate ur directing members over to the chiari forum : )

I have had one MRI after the surgery, but I haven't had one in about five years.  My NS was not a chiari specialist, and since I was only 14 when I had the surgery I had a pediatric doctor and pediatric NS.  I tried explaining to my new doctor the pain I was experiencing and about my Chiari and he didn't really do anything about it.  I feel like he doesn't even know what I'm talking about, is there any way to find Chiari specialists closest to you? And thanks for the link to the chiari forum :)

Hi, u may want to join the Chiari forum.

http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Chiari-Malformation/show/257?camp=msc

Have u had recent MRI's to review them for related chiari conditions? like...a syrinx...DDD, or tethered cord?

The PFD surgery is a means to slow progression but is by no means a cure.It may help alleviate some symptoms or none at all.

May I ask, was ur NS a chiari specialist?....and when was ur last MRI?
