Neck pain and sciatica

Hi, im a 44 year old woman other wise fit and healthy and 3 weeks ago i had a hot, severe burning pain in my neck at work ( i work in an office at a desk) i persevered with this pain for 3 days then had to go sick from work as sciatica started. Went to my GP who diagnosed sciatica and gave me codeine 30mgs to take every 4 hours. Since then i can bear the sciatic pain but my neck pain has got that bad ive been in tears. Went back to GP who increased codeine to 60mgs but all it has done is made me feel dizzy and tired as if im high, I have an appointment tomorrow with a physio and another appointment booked for 14th Novemember with a musculoskeletal consultant and constantly getting harrassed by my work asking if im better and am i going back which is stressing me out and making my pain worse. I had similar pain in 2002 for 6 months and never had a flare up until now, i just dont understand why this is happening when im fit and healthy, eat a well balanced diet and exercise 5 days a week ( which i havent been able to do now for 3 weeks) had anyone had similar symptoms and is there anything that can be done.

thanks

Hmmm - Well I do not get it.  I have been a Chiropractic Physician for 30 years and EVERYDAY I help people with your type of complaints.  I really would suggest you get to a Doctor of Chiropractic and see what can be done.  Look at http://www.chiropracticcareinformation.com   and if you want a great local doctor of Chiropractic go to http://www.bit.ly/findadocb     thisis the database for members of the American Chiropractic Association. The National  Association website is http://www.acatoday.org    Good Luck.  But seriously - You need to see a Chiropractic Doctor.

i will try that. just back from physio and im in agony. she also seems to think its from sitting at a desk 8 hours a day due to bad posture of an inadeqate chair. could well be. Im getting work phoning me at lunch time to see if i will be better to go back to work after my session with the physio, they must think i was seeing jesus and will have a miraculous recovery :(

I have sciatica but the only way to relieve the symptoms is to lie on my back and pull the leg that is closest to my pain and pull.  You will be able to feel the stretch.  It works for me and has for the last 10yrs.

I wonder if this comes from sitting behind a desk as I have been diagnosed with everything under the sun and it all started when I had my first office job.
