Why Are We Here? - About Me
The bibles are beautifully written, often poetic verse with over 4,000 and 2,000 years of history between the two of them respectively.
Whether we like it or not, they have had a major impact on the world in all areas of life and thought. We would not be what we are today without them.
This alone makes them worthy of examination, reflection, study, and critical analysis.
First; about me;
Yes, I AM an Atheist.
It would be more correct to say I'm an Agnostic, but I don't wish to pull any punches here. That said, I am not without my beliefs and faiths.
However, I was raised in a mixed Orthodox/ Conservative Jewish Community. I was reading the Tanakh (Old Testament) in Hebrew at an early age.
As a teen I was introduced to the Catholic Church and the New Testament due to pressures from the Catholic side of my family.
So I am, to some degree, VERY familiar with these books.
They are a part of me.
I also have a bit of an obsession with history. Perhaps one of my favorite things is reading the bibles and attempting to understand the text from a social, psychological, political and spiritual perspective of the people that existed when the texts were developed and written.
I hope that those who chose to join this group can explore and express ideas and most of all, learn and have fun.
So introduce yourself and post something about your beliefs on this thread...
