Abilify Side Effects

I had to stop taking Abilify because I could not urinate!
Today was the last straw. I couldn't go for 6 hours!!!
The drug settled my mood swings but darn the luck!
Got to start all over again.....

Hi I am not on Abilify, however, I had a very similar experience with haloperidol..really, really dry mouth and urine retention...I did not waste any time getting off that one.  There are many good medications and I'm sure you will hit on what is best for you.  Thanks, Hey Jude

Sorry if it was offensive to anyone but I lol'd at it and I take Abilify.  I know any psych meds can have scary side effects but try not to let them scare you if possible.  Just worry about it if you go through the side effect because 95% of them are temporary anyway as far as I know.

I am finding I possibly have the exact opposite problem from Abilify just like I did with Geodon.  Funny how medications effects us all so differently.  Good luck on finding a new medicine.

Did your psychiatrist say what the cause of that was? I know Abilify like all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects (although less so then other antipsychotics) which include dry mouth and urinary retention. Sometimes some of the side effect pills used to treat the motor restlessness from it such as the anti-cholinergics (Cogentin, Artane, etc.) can make that worse. That might be one cause but generally its not so severe. Your psychiatrist should be able to explain what happened though.
