Anyone ever wish there was a delete button?

As those that read the questions and are my friends or just been reading the post.  I wish I could take back the intimate about self ones...sometimes.  I wish I could take back the rattling ones. I don't need to be "wierd" in here, it is safe for me. Tried to erase some, nope won't let me. So sorry for the looooong rambling, jumbled ones and tmi.

When a person is in their "worse way" is probably when they need the help and advice of their fellow posters.  Please don't apologize, we all go thru similar issues and this is a safe place.

Don't worry about it; no one on here is going to judge you for it. That is what these forums are for; they're a world-wide support group. Even if you are posting something personal, it's something that you need to get out and these forums are great for that. We all have a basic understanding of what you're going through and can support you in a very positive manner.

However, you do have to maintain a level of anonymity on any forum, at least with respect to your identity and where you live. It is about protecting yourself and your family. I have had a bad habit of posting about a particular family member in the past.. But that individual was really making my life difficult and I needed to vent.

To be honest, if any of my family wants to try and pull up any information about what I have been posting, they are more than welcome to do so. Anything that I have posted has been things that I have said to their face.. And, well, if I haven't said it to their face, then it's high time I do so..

But, again, don't be afraid to post.. There are times when we all need serious support and there are many of us that frequent the board constantly and we're more than happy to help you.

Well, the original question was about e-mail, but forums are similar. Except you can really put your foot in your mouth since thousands of people can see what you put instead of just one, LOL.

I just wanted to say thanks Steve for giving you input and reminder on the matter in a forum I haven't seen you in before in all the time I've used Medhelp.

Steve...thank you for that reminder :)

Z...Funny how a thread can "turn."  I think your initial concern has somehow become lost along the way :)

That's very true^^

I learned the hard way that it's best not to use the same handle on other forums.  Yah.  Bad idea.  lol

And Xila - this is actually the first forum I've been on that doesn't allow editing, at minimum.  And you're right - it does (well, should,) make the poster stop and think instead of just post haphazardly.  I understand it can be hard during a manic episode though lol.  Guess I haven't encountered that just yet on this board.  It's comforting to see that the mods are willing to help reword things if we need them to!

As the text says when you post a new question, "Any information you submit will appear to the public in our forum, so DO NOT enter your LAST name, E-MAIL ADDRESS, or any other confidential information."

Some people use the same handle all over the internet. That's handy, but it makes it easy for others to track your posts and learn things you may prefer they didn't know. The internet seems anonymous, but a little search engine work can turn up all kinds of info. I guess the new generation doesn't really care (and I don't know what generation you identify with), but some of us do try to hang onto the illusion of privacy.

If you have a concern about a post (or your member name), you can send us a note via the Contact Us link below and we can take a look and perhaps delete or edit it for you.

On most forums when this mistake is made, I usually delete the post. Because most forums allow you to edit your own post. But, this particular one doesn't have that option, so I tend to think more before I speak. I think it is helping me in other forums, too.

Hey all - I'm brand new here but thought I'd pipe in.

I know exactly what the op is saying.  I adore forums of all sorts.  They're a great way to chat with others of like mind and such and they're a great way to learn, help others, be entertained, etc.  But oh, am I familiar with that sinking feeling of 'uh oh.'  lol!

As long as you remain anonymous, try not to have any worries whatsoever.  That's what makes forum'ing so fun.  You're supposed to feel free to express yourself without fear of being judged or whatever.  Just follow the rules and be respectful of others.  If someone has a problem with you, it's their problem and you shouldn't be concerned.

It's a joke amongst my pdoc and tdoc - my social life is booming.  It's just all online lol.  Yay for forums in my little world!  :)

Yes I see your point. I have learned the general rule not to post while manic or if any treatments for my physical disability are setting off mania or psychosis (which can occur with standard treatments for it) which is an ever present concern and my neurologist and psychiatrist work together on. I also, since aspects of my recovery are clinically complex post about that only in my journal entries and I can always delete or privatize them if I have concerns. I do notice people sometimes lift people's journal entries (for positive or negative purposes depending, the internet lacks a sense of discipline) so its best to not post information too personal or set those entries to private or friends only. Also because sometimes people can notice it I make sure to be discrete when posting about family and friends except if I have asked specific permission to post questions that are supportive of their own recovery.

Yes.

At times - I go to bed and think - oh my. What did I just do. I just admitted to half the world I have Bipolar and they all know.  Oh my.

At the same time, as long as I learn to keep "my identity secret" all people can possibly figure out is that I'm female by my other irratating symtoms.

Perhaps my age by the way I write. I make sure I don't put anything that could lead to my family in anyway. This needs to be left with me.

I do wish there was a delete button that could be deleted after all of these "craze" moods. But what is there left to do but monitor my personal information.

- Good Luck.

I try to have no regrets about things I've done and try to write everything extremely anonymously now to avoid this.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm sliding downhill quite a bit and wonder off the point and say stuff I wouldn't otherwise. I don't worry about it in here as much as out there where they just think you are an assylem escapee...including family.
So thanks. Those that are Christians, Rogelio, and others, please do so, I really am on shakey ground and my husband is going in for surgery and then we have to go somewhere in April I want to go privately but my Father invited an army worth of "acquaintances". For my Mother I will honor my Father and attend her internment with the circus of strangers instead of being private.
Again, Jade, Rogelio and Snakenstein, I don't feel so differenent in here with the affirmation I get. Your escapee friend, zzzmykids/c

Never be sorry, honey.  I/we all understand.  This is an awesome forum where I feel "normal."  You're posts, shoot, everyone's posts have helped me to understand what I've thought was "wrong" with me my entire life.   And yes, I wish for a delete button often, lol.
