Bi-polar?Help!

Hello my dad is not doing very well mentally. I am very worried about him. He has always been a wonderful, caring, and selfless man. He did have issues in the past but nothing we could not get through. Last few years he has become distant, giving dirty look, mentally abusive, selfish, and vain. He also acts like two different people. He will say something and then a minut later he says something else. He is hot then cold and then back and forth. He was fine ten years ago but now he has turned into a cold hearted monster. I know he has depression, narcissism and sleep apnea. I know it can cause a lot of things, but he seems to have every psychological disorder in the book. What should I do?

He needs to be hospitalized but there are no more except if your a millionaire. I could probably help with the sleep apnea which could help stabilize his mood.

Bipolar really is something that a doctor would be able to dxs. Depending on your dads age there are many disorders that sound like what you are describing. My mother was dxs with bipolar before I was even born, and so I know how hard it is to have a parent act like your dad is. The best advice I can give you is remember that it is not him when he acts out. Keep calm and try to just focus on the good days. If he is willing to get help then get him help. If he is not willing to then you can look up life changes that he can make to help with the mood. However, you may need to figure out ways to help him implement these changes.

My mother drank alot when I was little which causes the depression to be worse. I helped her stop drinking and that helped her issue a bit. My husband has mood issues as well...I always try to stay positive when I am around him and I ignore his snappy comments. Usually this makes him realize what he is acting like and he calms.

I know that this isnt much help...but I wont you to know you are not alone and I will be praying for you.

Thank you so much for your prayers. The good news is my father does want to get help. The hard part is for him to continue to want to get help and not sweep it under the rug. Thank you again.
