That makes perfect sense. Thank you.
fallenleaf, I have been through therapy in the past and have changed my ways of looking at things as I have aged; even have chg.'d my priorities in life...I think putting some years behind me has helped. I am on medication for Bipolar and there is no way I would ever get off them...been on medicaton since 1985; will have to be on it reast of my life, more than likely.
Thank you both, you guys make perfect sense and have enabled me to put this question behind me. Take care.
Hi I am new here. I agree with Xila31 because I am diagnosed with bipolar, ptsd, anxiety disorder etc, but I know that I am also borderline because I meet all the requirements in the DSM4.. and my pdoc said I probably am by just meeting with me. And yes there is no meds for it just therapy and learning boundaries etc..I think it comes from some significant incident or incidents while we were forming our self esteem and personality etc but that is just my opinion. IF you have been taken off your meds for bipolar watch closely because you may also have bipolar too.
Take care
I do not know if you can progress BPD into bipolar, but I know BPD and BP are commonly diagnosed co-morbid. I was diagnosed bipolar first and then after more testing they also diagnosed me BPD co-morbid. I have heard BPD is only treated with therapy and not meds, so it is possible that it is not a chronic illness. Also, I think BPD is caused by environmental issues and although may be more common in people with certain genetic factors, is more like PSTD. Where BP is actually a biochemical malfunction in the brain system. So, perhaps you are eventually able to heal from BPD with correct treatments? Also, my pshychologist told me that because BPD often has some of the same symptoms of BP it is possible to miss either one or the other when initial diagnosis is done for either.
I hope that helps.
