Cold water-really funny!!!

http://bipolarodyssey.com/PostPubdata.htm

O.k., so here's this article that says that people with "manic depression" have a sticky switch in their brain which keep the left and right hemispheres from switching into dominant position during various mental tasks.  They said this is a traditional neurological test which activates orientation pathways connected to regions on the opposite side of the brain.  So:
Researchers have found that cold water in the right ear will temporarily relieve depression and cold water in the left ear will help "ease" mania.

So does this mean that when i'm in the midst of a major manic episode that if I pour ice cold water in my ear, my mania is going to disapear???  I'm sorry, maybe i'm all wrong here but if my pdoc told me to do this while I was sky high, I would think he was crazy!

Geez, if curing mania and depression was that easy, don't you think that all those old women who were dunked on the stool in jolly ol England hundreds of years ago that they would have been cured?

I'm really desperate - I'll try it tonight and let you know. It's going in the right ear for me - that's for sure. Doesn't sound that outrageous to me though.
