Haldol Decanoate injection causing vision problems-help!

Hello! I receive a 100 mg injection of haldol decanoate on July 27th and I've been dealing with an uncomfortable side effect for the past two months. I get this staring problem where I fixate on small details around me and I can't look away. Like I'll stare at the taillights of the car in front of me or the specks of herbs in my food. And when I try to close my eyes, my eyelids flutter rapidly and I see flashes. And my eyelashes scratch my eyeballs. This might be a form of oculogyric crisis but different. I've tried taking Cogentin, Benadryl, and Coenzyme Q10 but the side effect persists and I had a bad attack two nights ago. I couldn't even keep my eyes closed, I kept staring at the ceiling. I haven't tried Artane yet but it requires a prescription and my psychiatrist is currently overseas. I doubt it would help anyway since Cogentin didn't help. I've switched to Latuda and I'm patiently waiting for the Haldol to get out of my system. Could Latuda be causing the same vision/eye problem? How much longer will the Haldol be in my system? Has anyone had a similar experience from taking Haldol? Are there any over the counter treatments to try? Any thoughts? I need to get a job but I'm stuck at home resting and waiting for the vision problem to stop. It happens almost every other day. I'm wondering when it will go away since I've stopped getting the Haldol injections. Help!!

Thanks for your input! I was wondering the same thing, if an optometrist would know anything about it. I went two days without the vision problem and became hopeful again but it came back last night a little bit. I squeezed my eyes shut and went to sleep. The thing that is driving me crazy is that I need to get a job but not sure what would happen if the vision problem happens at work. I guess I just have to keep being patient for this thing to stop happening. I just pray that Latuda doesn't cause the same thing to happen but I'm pretty sure that it's the leftover Haldol in my system. Wish me luck because I'm really fed up with this! Cheers.

How are things now for you? My daughter cannot close her eyes. Had to tie scarf over her eyes so she can sleep. This is a few days out from taking haldol shot. Hate this med!

Unfortunately there is absolutely no way to determine how long a side effect will last. I'm wondering if going to an optometrist might help. Maybe there is some kind of prescription eye drops he/she can give you to see if they will help.
