Has anyone had experience with Ambien

Has anyone had experience with Ambien as a sleeping pill?  Does it let you sleep through the night, and if so, how did you feel in the morning?  I would appreicate hearing from anyone who takes it.

Ambien has the potential to cause tremors as a side effect. This can also happen when a person is discontinuing it which would need to be done under a  psychiatrist's supervision because a person can build up a tolerance to it.
This should go away in time but keep your psychiatrist up to date.

I was on trazodone for sleep 400mgs along with other meds. My Psychiatrist, who is new to the pic", prescribed Ambien, the lowest dosage. He disc'd my Trazodone and Wellbutrin, my only two antidepressants and started me on Cymbalta. I am Bipolar with Major depression. For a week I was fine. I awoke on a Sat. morning with exceptionally fast and annoying hand tremors in my left hand. The tremors are not new but were under control. My heart was racing, I felt as if someone shook me upside down inside and it felt like a motor, a fast motor, running inside me, ie. Like a gerbil on a wheel, but I was not energetic on the outside. This happened for 4 nights and then I called my Doc. Saw him next morning and he gave me Zyprexa. That was supposed to put me to sleep. If that didn't work, take the Zyprexa with the Ambien and just take a Klonopin in the mornings. ********!!!!! No sleep. Took 2 of my Trazodones, still no sleep. Took 2 more and finally dozed off. I will NEVER take Ambien again. I'm positive that is what caused my "episode." Tonight is my second night and I took the Zyprexa almost an hour ago and I am not even remotely sleepy. Has ANYONE HAD AN EPISODE or anything near what happened to me with Ambien?

I have had some of the same experiences with Ambien. It appears to work great... but then I started to have amnesia episodes where I thought (per my memory) that I was sleeping, but in fact I was doing something else entirely that scared the crud out of my husband.

There have been reports that people get out of their house and drive their cars under the effects of Ambien.. so if you are having amnesia or other side effects of that nature, stop it immediately... and call your doctor!

Be careful with Trazadone though because it is an anti-depressant and could stimulate manic episodes in someone with Bi-Polar Disease.

I have taken Ambien for more than two years. First, never take Ambien and then stay up as it could cause you to not remember things you do. It needs to be taken just before you get into bed. It has a short window of activity which happens 10 - 20 minutes after you take it when it will put you to sleep. If you are laying there ready to sleep when it happens then it is less effective. It is a hypnotic which means the most likely side effect, after it takes effect, is that you could do things in your sleep. A common one is sleep eating. I, however, have had no trouble with Ambien.

I started taking Ambien three months ago and I have started doing ome things out of the norm. Just last night I made my husband his lunch, he likes me to cut spam up and fry it to make sandwiches, so I did that and went into my office and got on the computer for awhile and this was about 1:00am this morning, so about 2:30, I was back in the kitchen, I layed some more bread out, got the mayo and eggs out, turned the burner on the stove on (Electric) and I Thank God that I did not put a frying pan ot pot on the burner, take note, I do not remember any of this, or per say after I made my husband's lunch at 1:00am, I took the ambien after that, I ha intentions of going to bed right after I took the ambien, but I didn't. I have been doing thinhs in the kitchen, all related to cooking and I could have burned my house down and killed my husband and myself. I have a Perscription of Ambien waiting to be picked up, a 90 day supply and I have one pill left in my bottle, I am not going to tapper myself off, I am going cold turkey and I am not going to pick my RX up and I am Not going to take the one pill I have left, The memory loss and not knowing what I am doing at the time I am doing it worries me and my husband, He is the one who picks me up off the floor after I fall and when I pass out in chairs, I am dobne with Ambien forever.

You could also try trazodone. Ambien did nothing for me.

I take Ambien as a last resort of sorts.  I take Vistaril to go to sleep.  I like Ambien but it makes me a zombie the next day.  Usually in combination with Vistaril.  Everybody is different though.  See if you can get a sample and try it.

I found it somewhat of help but generally but it generally was of short term use although each person responds differently to each medication of course. The only sleep aide that I was allowed to take on a long term basis and worked that way and is clinically noted as not having the potential for addiction was Rozerem and unlike Ambien that would not make me tired throughout the day but that is a specific psychiatrist's decision.
