Help with going back to work on Monday

My husband had a breakdown Tuesday night and was brought to the hospital.  We both work at the same place.  The higher up know what is going on but my boss and our co-workers do not.  I do not know what to say, right now he does not care who knows that he is bipolar and broke down but he is not thinking straight right now.  I can tell people I don't want to talk about it but then people really talk also..I'd rather the truth be told.  Does anyone have any suggestions for when I go back on Monday?  They are aware he is in the hospital.

Thanks!

I think you need to let your husband decide what he is comfortable sharing with people or not. I know it's difficult for you too. In the meantime, maybe you can just leave it that he isn't well and is in the hospital. Then, when he is thinking more clearly, he can decide what he wants co-workers to know.
I am glad that he is getting treatment but you need to find a way to take care of yourself too. Mental illness takes its toll on everyone in the family; not just the person with the diagnosis. Hopefully, you can find a support group for family members with mental illness. The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) offers lots of support groups and tools. Good luck to you and to your husband!

I have been newly diagnosed & asked my therapist & psychiatrist if I should share with the HR Dept or my boss at work & they both told me not to. It's no ones business. If people ask you could just say he has a medical issue but he is doing better. That takes the stress off you. If your husband chooses to share that will be up to him. Good luck!

I have to agree, it isn't anyone else's business as to what's going on with your husband.  I have Bi Polar Disorder.  No, I haven't said to much regarding my Bi Polar.  If they ask, I tell them.

Let him decide in time

Just say it is his thyroid gland they think or some problem with his insulin levels
any excuse, say it is not clear they are doing tests.

When i went bad, i said it was my hormones were depleted caused by stress, no one blinked an eye lid !  Any BS will do them.

Then say i am very worried about him, talk about how worried you are, go on and on about yourself, ha ha,   and then change the topic back to them and they will happily talk about themselves LOL !
