Music is one of the things that can really set me off. I quit listening to Tori Amos because of it. I love her songs but I always end up in a really bad place. When I am in a bad place her songs come to mind.
I listen to Christian Contemporary or Country. The lyrics you can sing along with and they usually don't make me cry. Some country songs can be pretty depressing too though so I have to watch.
Wow, your post just made me identify that music sets me off too. I get extremely intense emotion, cry for no reason. Never realized it can be a trigger. Thanks !!!!!
I am working really hard with my social worker right now on my "triggers". I have found that past memories can be triggered when I listen to certain music. The lyrics hit too close to home. I really understand where you are coming from.
I don't have this happen really where music "sets me off" so to speak but I only experience anxiety in terms of mood issues and no depression or mania according to the hospital when I was there a few weeks ago.
Suggest you stay off whatever makes you sad. There's an infinite amount of other music you can try. Good that you have recognised what 'sets you off'. You have the cure in your own hands. Nothing wrong in not wanting to be a rock star. Good Luck.
It is a really great thing when we know what our triggers are!!!!!! It really can be anything for different people.....we are all different so we all have different triggers. But the great part about knowing them is that you can try your best to avoid them. One of mine is noise. Or even worse....conflicting noise!!!!!
It is the triggers we haven't figured out yet that takes us on a bad ride!
Music can set me off too. I actually only listen to music that sends me both ways instead of just up or down so I know its never just the music setting me off.
I always thought it was weird, kind of like it just starts me rolling. Snowball effect right?
