I sleep a lot!

I sleep a lot!  I go to bed at 9:30 or 10:00 pm and get up between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm.  That's at least 14 hours of sleep a day, and that's a good day.  I have been known to stay in bed all night, all day, and all night again on a bad day.  I went for a sleep study but they said everything is normal.  I know depression causes sleep and I am depressed right now, but I sleep like this most of the time except when I am in a very, very severe mania.

Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas?  I would appreciate anybody's insight.  Thank you.

When an adult, as you sleep, long hours (over 10) and may even go even days sleeping, you need to be studied thoroughly. We must make a good history of sleep, to assess both the quality of sleep at night as the degree of daytime sleepiness that you, also do a complete neurological exploracicón (depression if you can get more sleep, but there are many other causes ) and of course a nocturnal polysomnography followed by a multiple sleep latency test (test to study must sleep during the day), we do not know if in your case you have done or not. Our advice is that you go to a good sleep specialist pathology to examine you properly, because analyzing the causes you spend many hours sleeping and since in most cases, you can improve and hygiene standards Sleep and drug treatment.

My bipolar husband committed suicide.  they said he was addicted the klonopin and made him taper off.  I say take anything that's going to preserve your quality of and life. that's not the concern, staying alive is.  just letting you know what it is like to be on both sides... I have to fatherless children now.

I quite often go back to sleep after having had a full nights sleep myself.  I am on seroquel for sleep at night, but find sometimes that even after a good 12 hours sleep i need more.  I am more than often found sleeping in the afternoon.  When there is a lot of stress in my life as well my whole body shuts down and the only way I react is by sleeping!

I have a terrible time sleeping at night,,mostly due to back pain, but sometimes not.  But I have noticed myself sleeping during the day alot lately.  It seems like everytime I lay down and become unoccupied for a few minutes,,I'm asleep.
Usually not a problem, but lately, I've got stuff I need to do and it's getting in the way.

I just went through this exact same thing...
I normally have a horrible time sleeping at night. This weekend, I went to bed at 2:00 am, slept till 11:00 am the next day, went back to bed shortly thereafter ( oh, i should mention that I don't sleep in my bed, I sleep on my couch, for some reason going to bed for me is a very lonely idea and a bit upsetting. Also, I don't have to make the bed each day - beds are pristine and all I need do each day is fold up cover from couch and put pillows back in the bedroom ) I also have to sleep with a pillow against my stomach for some reason.
But, back to the sleep. I got up for a few hours to watch TV, then went back to sleep and slept till 8pm, stayed up for a couple of hours and slept till 10:30 this morning.
Only change I can think of is that I didn't have coffee that day. Took all my meds as usual. Sometimes, after I've had something fun/exciting happen in my life and then it's over, I fall into this deep sleep. I can only attribute it to depression and nothing else.
Sometimes we just shut down... don't want to go out, talk to people, wash our faces, brush our teeth or even bathe. Well, for what it's worth, that's my experience. I've just recently started keeping this mood chart and hope I can notice some triggers.
I have a meditation pad I don't use. I have exercise equipment I don't use. I have meditation CD's I don't listen to. I have a house that becomes messy after I've gotten it clean as a whistle. Write if off as a severe mood swing???

I guess I am the same as you.  Mine has been since a child too.  Is there any way to change it?

I forgot the most important part!!! PLEASE don't force yourself!!! The only reason i have to force myself awake when i could sleep was bc my husband wants the house clean, dinner cooked, and his lunch fixed etc EVERY day. He was raised where his mom was horribly sloppy and they left stuff where they left it, so he got spoiled that way but can't stand to see it there so i have to clean, clean, clean :( Everyone's sleeping periods are different and unique!! You are more normal than you think, even if others sleep less!!

I could sleep and sleep and sleep ...  No medical reasons showing up for me.  I've said on here before that I've been like this right from a child.  If I force myself to stay awake for normal periods I end up having a major sleep crash. :(

I sleep as much as you do, and am not depressed, and they say i'm normal too. My 3 mos. old daughter and my having a four yr old boy are the only things that keep me up, but when she's sleeping i am too. My son wakes me when he's hungry or needs the tv changed or his v tech turned on/off. Almost like mini alarm clocks you can't ignore :) I suggest waking yourself up with an alarm clock every so oft during the day, do some activities until you are ready to lie down agian, then when you get used to your routine try and stay up later each time until you think you are good, keeping a journal of your time awake/ asleep and when you take ur meds until you reach a point where you are more happy. Then if  it is your meds afecting you, you'll have a journal to show your doc, and if it isn't your meds, then it's sleeping too much, and you're accidently making yourself sleep more by your body wanting to sleep more (I forget the term sry!) This has been helping me out alot!! I can actually spend much needed time with my hubby and kids without falling asleep on them.

To keep my sanity and to withstand our circumstances, I sleep quite a bit.  Or stay in bed or bed clothes for long periods of time.  I am at this time not overly depressed.  Have been reacting poorly to meds tried since Effexor stopped working just about the time both daughters moved home.  Our home WAS brand new, now down one hallway is a family of four, kids are under five and a dog.  They have three bedrooms and two bathrooms and a family room and garage.  The other daughter has one room and bathroom.
Before second daughter went back to work after three months out of work, it was hell, so I just stayed in my own room.  The other one with kids, its great but her husband suffers from serious depression so it made it hard for both of us...his is seasonal and now is happy.
I can't be worried about the sleep, lack of doing things at the house, I leave the cleaning to the girls, all I do is our laundry and an ocassional meal or two.
It is for survival that I am in bed, maybe for you as well if a lot is going on around you.  Can't take the manics so I try being as peaceful as possible.
Now I will get up to play in the dirt and plant stuff, that is refreshing and produces a visual tangible thing.
Maybe it's your meds, serequol not er was the best I have had since December but was taken off of it because I looked like a balloon on it.
Listen to your psych, monitor your daily health, eat healthy.
Now back to bed for me, house is getting busy....but only for four more weeks then quiet and peaceful once again.

Before I got on medication I had one time where I slept for 25 hours straight and it confused me because I thought I had only slept an hour but the dates were all different.  Then there's a couple of times I slept 24 hours straight which isn't as confusing.  Other than that I used to sleep like you on a regular basis and now even on medication I can sleep from anywhere between 4 to 14 hours, with 12 being the average.  I would say talk to your doctor about it since it really screws up your personal life when you work.

Depends. If you experienced that before medication yes that can come from depression. On the other hand some medications such as Zyprexa are severely sedating. Do you feel too depressed to get out of bed and a drag like effect or just general sedation? And there's no reason it couldn't be both at once. You should speak to your psychiatrist about what the cause is and perhaps have treatment adjusted.
