Starting Lithium

I have a Mood Disorder NOS. I started Lithium 2 weeks ago. Starting a new med feels so awful. How long does it takes for the awful feeling to go away? I started on 300 and went up to 600 a few days after that. The doctor had me go back to 300 since I felt so bad and my stomach swelled up huge! I can't believe how big my stomach got. Will that go away too?

Update: I called my psych and he is recommending Latuda since I simply cannot tolerate Lithium. I have read great things about it. Hopeful again.

Thank you for your response. I just am miserable and the side effect "could" go away, but I just doubt it. I don't know how long to give this. I don't want to take it even one more time. He had me go back down to 300mg but the awful severe bloating hasn't lessened.

Lithium can take a month or more to build up to a working blood level
and also for side effects to start to mitigate but you can ask your psychiatrist about the clinical specifics. Fluid retention can sometimes be a side effect of concern and you can ask your psychiatrist what
is the best way to follow up with that.
