Music Therapy -highly recommended

This is not a question , more so a recommendation -
I've played guitar ,drum's and bass since my early teens ,i played in bands in high school even recorded some of my own song's (on cassette tape) back in the day .
During my late teens and throughout my 20's i suffered with severe  mental health issue's and drug and alcohol abuse , times were tough ..so to speak, with numerous suicide attempts , hospitalizations , homelessness. lockup's and jail time twice in the prison psychiatric ward . (Oh yeah .i'm drug / alcohol free 2 yrs)

Now, today i've been stable on my med's for a little while now and i've been remembering how good music used to make me feel (playing instruments )and listening of coarse  So i've decided to save some money and buy a drumkit and an electric guitar and get back into what i love and enjoy .

for music Music is rewarding  = food for the soul , creation = therapy = Sanity :) hope you guy's give an instrument  shot .

I just got a membership at the Y and they have a pound class which mixes cardio with drums and though I have yet to try it because of the Y closing due to weather, I should be able to do it this week some time :)

Yes! 2 years! Wonderful.     I believe you. Music is soul food. My brother is a bass player & sometimes drums too. My grandma was in an all woman's saxaphone band in the 1940's.
I used to fool around on her organ, but mainly love to listen to all types of music. I was a dancer for many years & worked out with Jazzercise & they use all types of music. Rock, pop , rap ,even country. That's where I learned to diversify.  I'm using music & podcasts as an aspect of my Therapy. Pamela

Congrats on your clean time bud,
I have been listening to music all night and it does sound soooo much better clean and it invokes so many emotions in me that I find it overwhelming sometimes.  Songs can seem to make you travel through time sometimes.  If I am not listening to it I am singing it....and I don't care how it sounds to others lol
I also play guitar but it has been a while....now I write and read more.  However, I think that I may be good at playing drums.  I do it anyway on the steering wheel of my car so perhaps I will save up and buy a drum set :)
