confused

Hi all i was diagnosed with bi polar 2 ,avoidant personality disorder and social phobia ever since i was a kid i believed i had a sixth sense as i now know it. I was convinced  that god or something like  was helping me out in certain situations i also saw my granfathers sister not long after she died as i was walking down my street she didn't say anything but it was enough to terrify me completely til i was shaking , i haven't had any god like guidance or senses since i was in my mid teens but i have had other experiences even the other night where i can sense a strong  presence in the room whilst no one else is around and it sometimes can vary in duration , other times i'm sure there is something or someone outside my window or prowling around my yard yet i don't hear anything i just get the sense or feeling . doe's any one else with bi polar 1 or 2 get this or something simmilar ? also i have experienced ultra rapid cycling a few times in 1 day than mixed state for a few days than months of depression dysphoria i never stay in hypomania long enough unfortunately and i feel i'm in remission atm just a little bit of depression and i've been off medication for nearly 3 months however this is a very unpredictable illness as i know it.Any way can any one relate or have any coments i would be interested to know . thanks                                                                                                                                                                                 Stormbear

If you are bipolar 2 - antidepressants will send you bonkers. Some doctors prescribe them with a mood stabilizer, but most now are not even doing that.St. John's Wort the herbal suppliment can do that too.

I take 200mg of lamotrigine. This medications I would not be without. It helps a lot. And I take 10mg of Abilify although I am thinking of asking my psychiatrist to raise it to 15mg. It is helping a lot at the 10mg but not quite all the way there. I also take 50mg of trazodone at bedtime to help me sleep.

You really do need to go and see a psychiatrist. They can help you so much. I know it is hard, but if you can force yourself to do it. Maybe get a friend or family member to take you there? And ask to get into some counselling. A day program or some one on one sessions may help you overcome some of your social anxiety.

I noticed you said you were off meds for three months too. Make sure you are seeing a psychiatrist or therapist if you are trying to go at it without meds. If it is a matter of cost most companies have programs where you can get meds for a deep discount or free. You or your doctor just have to apply.

Antipsychotics can really help with voices and such things. I have never seen people but I was afraid to go outside at night. Terrified. When I took the dog outside, I would leave the door open so I could run back inside. Every little noise was someone or something fearful. People across the street just walking would terrify me. Not quite to the level you were but terrifying nonetheless.

With proper meds I have none of that. I am not fearful, I am not seeing things out of the corner of my eye, I am pretty normal now. Mildly depressed but managing. Also learning to manage my social anxiety and reaching out to make new contacts (with the help of my therapist). I am still a sloth when it comes to exercise, and really could eat better, but all good things in time.

I would really consider trying meds. Being off them while having symptoms can be quite dangerous. The suicide rate is 15% and it is even higher during a mixed episode or ultra rapid cycling. You may say to yourself. I would never do that. But when your brain goes into a certain point of an episode, you can lose control. 50% of people with bipolar will have a suicide attempt. Don't be one of them.

Hi Stormbear,

Diagnosed with bipolar 1, rapid-cycling..  I have had the feeling of a person just outside my door, whispering, but there is never anyone there. For me, this ended up being psychosis, so when it happens I now know it is not real.  My episode with this increased to the point where I heard voices talking to me through the radio, that is when I knew something was wrong. You are not alone.

I do not know what is happening for you, but based on my experience with this, it could be psychosis.  Best to ask doc.

Are you seeing a doc ? I am concerned that you mentioned you are off meds, because that can cause big problems.  Please be careful.

Darlene
