Am I protected?

So this is my first time taking birth control. I took my first pill on the almost end of March and I got my period like literally the next day but I kept taking my pills cause I had already started them. Then the next month I had my period but it was almost 2 weeks early and i was on the placebo pills. I had asked my doctor if that was normal and she said I was fine as long as I got me period every month. I've been taking my pills every day. Am I still protected even though my menstrual cycle date has changed because before birth control I would get them at the almost end of the month.
