Birth Control and Anxiety

Hi. I am 22 years old and I do suffer from anxiety. [GAC] However i have found that with the start of taking birth control pills my anxiety has increased dramatically and depression has became very apparant.. Im a psychology major, i know what the signs are of sadness and what the signs of depression are. My problem isn't all month though. I seem to only have depression during the first two weeks of each pack. I talked to my gyno about this who decided to try changing my birth control... twice. I went from ortho tri cyclen lo, to ortho cyclen, to ortho tri cyclen. All of which have made me have anxiety. I was on the depo shot for years and beside minor bone loss i had no issues.

Is there anyone who has had this problem and actually found an answer??
I am sexually active and not ready for a child at all.

I have had severe anxiety problems before and they are terrible. I am sorry that you are having trouble with them & finding a birth control that works. I would NOT recommend YAZ...it's the only birth control that has had truly debilitating effects on my mood. I've experienced depression, anxiety, headaches, weird breathing/yawning side effects, you name it...currently I am taking a break from birth control (my boyfriend lives 3 hours away anyway, so honestly it doesn't get to happen that often), and trying to get my body regulated after this terrible bout with YAZ, but I was on Loestrin-24 about a year 1/2 ago & had very mild side effects with that one (about 10 lbs of weight gain)...so maybe give it a try.
Hope this helps & good luck!

the first 2 weeks were the worst for me too, then it went away. There was more bad days than good days though,so i quit. I was on ortho tricyclen lo, then on Yaz. Both caused anxiety/depression. I think the hormones in the pills just effect peoples bodies differently, meaning theres no answer. Maybe someday, when doctors pay more attention to the psychological side effects.
