Does starting birth control prevent your endometrium from shedding?

My endometrium was irregularly thickened on an ultrasound. My doctor then started me on birth control at the start of my period of January 14 and I was sent for another ultrasound on January 29. My endometrium was still sitting at the same thickness. Is this due to the birth control? I haven’t stopped bleeding on birth control and it’s not February 10. On February 8 the bleeding has gotten a lot heavier? Is this normal?
