Does Mirena have the same [emotional] side effects as other BCs?

I want to get an IUD really bad, but I'm afraid of the mood swings the hormones will make me have. Can I please have some positive AND negative reviews about it? Make sure you don't just put all negatives. I would like pros and cons, please.

i was going to go for the mirena IUD but decided against it.
i am bipolar and tend to have issues with mood swings to begin with. well, i looked it up to see if the hormones would mess with my moods. if you google mirena and bipolar..  you'll come across a site that many woman have posted on about the mirena. most of the girls on there had never had a problem with their moods or even a problem with depression. alot of them, after getting the mirena inserted, got put on anti depressants and one even claimed it got so out of hand she tried to catch herself on fire.. :( so i quickly call my doctor and cancelled my appointment. i haven't heard very many people say they liked it. but it is your body and your decision. and everybody is different in how they react to different things. i just didn't want to take the chance seeing as to how i already have problems with my moods.
hope this helps. :)

I had the Mirena IUD.  I wish it would have worked out for me because so far it has been my favorite.  I was told that it would be hard to get it put in since I'd never had kids but my doctor said she'd go ahead and do it since I was determined.  Well, it didn't quite fit, my uterus was too small.  So they had to stretch my uterus, and that is the worst pain I have EVER felt... and I was run over by a car and it broke my back and cracked my skull.  The uterus stretching was AWFUL!!  So if that is not an issue for you, you should be just fine.  Because of this my Mirena still never fit quite right.  And it supopsed to sit in your cervix, well mine ended up moving up into my uterus.  They told me that was fine though, it was still effective, but when it was time to remove it they were going to have to remove it surgically.  I thought, "I can deal with that since this BC lasts for 5 years."  It lasted for 6 months.  It ended up puncturing a hole through my uterus and they had to go in and surgically remove it right then.  While I had the Mirena my mood swings were a lot better and I had a lot less side effect compared to the pill or the shot.  I did have a lot of cramping but that was expected after the uterus stretching.  I didn't have a period the whole time I had it.  So, while I had my Mirena I liked it.  Getting it put in and taken out was miserable though.  If you have had children though this shouldn't be a problem.
