Problems with Seasonique

Hi!  To give some background...I started seasonique in Jan. 2011.  It is now December 2011...so almost a full year.

My first three months, I had no cycle for about a month and a half.  Than, I started to show some spotting...it continued for the remainder of the 3 month pack.  So for roughly about 1 and a half months I spotted...sometimes light sometimes heavy.

I called my doctor and he said "It is fine, your body is adjusting to the birth control and once you take the next three months it should decrease..."  So, I took the next 3 month package....for almost 2 months I was period free.  I thought it was finally working.  Than, the last month of the package I started my period.  I had a full period for a month....it wasn't light.  The majority of it was heavy to moderate.  Once my true period came around, I had it like normal and it started to die off at the end like it is suppose to.  Than I started the third package.  Same thing...about 2 months in, I got a period.  It started off light and proceeded to go to a heavy flow.  I called my doctor again...I talked to a nurse and she said the same thing my doctor told me previously "Your body is adjusting..."  So I took their word for it and dealt with the 1-2month period.

Finally, I started up this last package about 2 months ago.  I have been bleeding almost the entire time.  During thanksgiving my flow was extremely heavy.  It has never been that heavy ever!  Not even being off the pill entirely.  It freaked me out a bit but it kind of dwindled down and it almost entirely went away near the beginning of Decemeber (1st-2nd).  I had about two days of being period free and than it started up again about two days ago.

I have about a month left on this package of the pills and I am truly thinking about stopping it entirely.  I want to consult my doctor about it before I stop but I also want to hear from others that might be experiencing this type of reaction towards Seasonique.  Even though I have almost a month left, I am seriously sick and tired of having a period.  This pill is suppose to stop me from having a period but for almost 70-80% of the time I have taken this pill, I have had some type of period, be it light, moderate, heavy or extremely heavy.  I am scared to actually go out of my house without a pad on...and my sex life has felt the effects of it as well because of my bleeding.

Is it entirely wise for me to stop taking the pill mid way through the pack?  I have a feeling if I get off of it, I might have a period but hopefully it will return to normal.

Suggestions anyone?  Comments?

Thank so for taking the time to read this :)

I stopped taking it the other day.  I am still bleeding though...although I am experiencing a lil cramping now that I have stopped taking the pill.  I am going to be scheduling an apointment with my doctor once finals are over.

Until than I will just hope this is a normal type of period that will end.

I only started taking Seasonique because I was sick of having my period so much.  I use to have very bad cramps, throwing up and extreme fatigue with my cycle.  I go to a rather large University and it was bothersome to be on my period every month dealing with walking up hills and stairs and across campus.  I figured if I took seasonique...it would limit the number of periods I would have.

I thought it was a good idea at the time.  However, I am second guessing that as I have bled so much over the past year it hasn't really done what I wanted it to do.

I just hope that there is not going to be any long term effects because of this.

I have tried seasonique and I ended up having the same problems you did. The doctors office also gave me the run around about my body "adjusting". I ended up doing some research on it and found that seasonique had many negative posts from users. I also had seen a few posts that said family members ended up developing tumors in the brain and all these other crazy side effects. I decided to stop taking it and tried a few other types of birth control before I found the one for me. I tried depo but I gained tons of weight so I stopped that, then I tried Mirena but it was very uncomfortable. The last one I tried was the Nuva Ring and I can honestly say I haven't been happier with it than I am right now.
