Skipping period

I have been on birth control for a year now and I decided I was going to skip my period, because my boyfriend was coming in town for the weekend. Everything went fine and I did not have my period, but now I am feeling the consequences. I am now on the second week of my new pack and I am spotting like crazy and my breast are very sore and larger than normal. Also, I am breaking out pretty bad and just feel very tired. I was wondering if there is any way I could be pregnant?

Hey, so the doc yesterday said it's completely normal, that it is just breakthrough bleeding and nothing to worry about that it'll happen especially after skipping your period! :)

You guys didn't say which type of pill you're on. There are a few things to keep in mind when trying to skip your period by starting a new pack instead of continuing with the placebos.

First, some women try to skip and aren't able to do it because it doesn't work and causes spotting. That's unfortunate for those whom it happens that way.

Secondly, skipping only works with a monophasic pill, which is any brand that has the same level of hormones throughout the month. (Keeping in mind the above paragraph that it doesn't work at all for some).

If you're on any of the triphasic pills (ortho tri cyclen for example), you can't just skip and go to the next pack. You'd have to take the new pack in a different order than they are in the pack, because the varying level of hormones each week, and you'd need to take the right week to have a chance of it maybe working. Even still, there is a very high rate of failure to skip when on a triphasic pill anyway, even if you take it in the correct sequence. By "failure" I mean that the skip doesn't work and women will either get their period anyway or spotting or like what's happening to you now, you'll have spotting outside of your placebo week that seems to stick around longer. But the bottom line is, is not surprising and all you can do is ride it out.

If you are in a triphasic pill and you want to be able to skip, you'll have to try a monophasic pill instead to see if it works for you. I was on a monophasic pill for 15 years and it always worked for me to skip when I went on vacation. I was pretty lucky.

Hi! I skipped my period two weeks ago with my birth control pills and i have been having the EXACT same things you are, I think it is just from where our hormones are out of sync and your body thinks you are pregnant and that's where the spotting is coming from. I started cramping and spotting yesterday and was freaking out, but I think it is normal after skipping because your body is not used to missing the period. I'm going to the doctor today so I will get some answers and respond as soon as I find out!
