Withdrawl symptoms?

I started taking birth control pills back in Spetember.  At the end of March I decided to take myself off of them because I was experiencing pretty severe depression and crying spells, which is very unlike me.  Everything was bothering me, I was afraid of being alone, had no appetite, my heart would race and the entire world seemed to be falling down around my shoulders.

When I stopped taking them I stopped in the middle of a pack and I did start to feel a little better.  My appetite came back slowly and my racing heart eventually calmed.  I still had occasional periods of feeling sad, but for the most part I was getting back to being myself.

This past week I got my period and the depression and crying came back full force for the first couple days.  That eventually gave way to serious anxiety and multiple panic attacks (which I have never had in my life before).  My heart is also racing again.

Could I be having a reaction to stopping the birth control?  Can it cause a hormonal imbalance and if so, how long does it take to regulate again?

Ginger-
I'm really sorry you have had to deal with all of that!  I know what you mean about feeling like you're going through puberty again.  My skin has gotten much worse than it has been in ages since I stopped taking the pill.  I told my dr about what I was experiencing and she told me to try Zoloft.  I decided I didn't want to put myself on any more artificial anything so I never filled it.  What does evening primrose oil do?

I was on Microgestin FE.  Its funny how many people have told me that about 6-8 months into taking birth control is when they first noticed symptoms.  Especially because the dr.s say you should adjust in 3mos.
It seems to come and go in cycles now.  Just before, during and right after my period the depression and anxiety come back, but it seems to be with lessening severity each time.  Its just so frustrating when you think you're getting back to normal and then it starts up again. My fiance and my family are really supportive which is great, I just hate to keep being such a bummer!  I guess its going to take time to get everything out of my system and for my hormones to rebalance.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Dashur were you on Yasmin or Yaz?  Your symptoms sound very much like what I went through on Yaz.  Both Yasmin and Yaz have a different kind of progestin than other bcps.  I was on Yaz for six months, and started having anxiety attacks about once a month.  Then after I quit I felt better for a while, but it seems like at 3 months off and six months off things would get worse for a period of time.

Like Ginger said above, you may need to try to take extra care of yourself: taking vitamins, eating healthy, exercise and rest.  Your body will balance out eventually.

Hello there,

If I can give women out there an advice it be NOT to take BC Pills! I was on Yasmin for 5 years, unlike others I did not experience physical side effects but it did ruin my marriage since it destroyed my libido, no sex drive at all!
I decided to stop it in December of 07, and i have been on the most horrible ride of my life.First the periods were allot in one month or back to back. They would last for about 10 days! and then came the Acne! I haven't been able to keep it under control.
At 31 i feel like i am going through puberty again, except that in my teens i only got few pimples and not Acne.
I have been told to try Acutane and other related medications, However I have decided to stay out of any harsh chemicals. Instead I started to go to the gym allot, eat organic veggies and fruits, and take evening primrose oil to balance the hormones.
So far I can deal with it, but it will be a long ride to recovery.....
I hope my story helps you in your decision.
