mixing pills

I might need to take antidepressents in the near future but I was also hoping to start taking birth control... I don't know much about pills... would there be any danger in taking both in the same period of about 4-6 months?

I have been on birth control for a few years and in the past year have been on a variety of medications for anxiety, depression, and PTSD. If you are pretty sure that you are going to be starting both relatively soon, I would recommend maybe getting the birth control and starting it for a few months before trying any kind of medication for depression. I experienced an increase in depression with Ortho-Tri (low) and you might want to see if you notice any changes with birth control first. Although taking the anti-depressants in conjunction with the birth control might cause some of those negative symptoms to lessen - you might be unable to discern between the symptoms of the birth control and other medications. I ran into this problem. Obvious symptoms like spotting you can attribute to your birth control... but certain more serious symptoms (such as the worsening of your depression or panic attacks, etc) are harder to decipher. You might want to become relatively comfortable with a birth control pill before starting the other medications. I have been on Yaz for a year now (and during this year, I was also on a variety of other medications as well). Now that I have stopped treating the depression/anxiety, etc., I have noticed a crazy change in my emotions right before my period. I think that perhaps the other medications I was on suppressed my depression and now it just gets worse before my period. I know this is a confusing explanation... but I had SO many issues this past year with the medications I tried. Not only psychological changes, but physical symptoms as well. I am not trying to scare you. The right combination of things can really help the situation, but the wrong combination can make things so much worse. I would highly recommend starting the birth control first to see if you notice any noticeable changes before your begin other medications. Once you start both, it is difficult to figure out what is causing an issue if one arises. Please write back with any questions.

there should not be any problems but you should ask your doctors. they will know a LOT better than people over the internet. it really depends on the types of medications and you yourself
