Implanon vs. Pills

I am currently using the Implanon Implant for Birth Control. I have been on it a little over a year. Its working great. I was wondering though, I was on the Depo Shot for about 4 years and I gained over 50 pounds. My highest weight was 220 pounds. I got off of the shot and onto the Birth Control Pill and got a great job, where I am active all of the time and sweating my butt off and I lost about 60 pounds (I was about 170ish or less) within a few months to a year and the weight stayed off. Well, I got on the Implanon Implant and now I'm up to 200 again almost and I'm wondering if its because of the Implanon. I'm not blaming it for my weight gain so much, but maybe for me NOT being able to lose it. They say its like a cousin to the Depo shot, so I'm wondering, if I get off of the Implanon and on the Pill if I could lose some weight. They say some people actually lose weight while on the Pill and I think I was one of them. I have a steady boyfriend for a year now and we have unprotected sex. The doctor said for the Pill to kick in after I switch would take a month. I'm kind of at a loss at what to do. I need to lose the weight, but its so hard. Granted I got laid off from my job a few months ago and its so hard to find another, is probably another reason why I've gained weight, but I've been on diets, worked out everyday and its not working. I think its because of the Implanon being in my system. Please help. Thanks!

I have always been small and nothing(besides pregnancy) could ever make me gain weight! I ate ate ate all the time never gained a pound even being on the Pill never made me gain weight, UNTIL Implanon. So I do believe Implanon can make Anyone gain weight verses the Birth Control PIll.

Well, you have to do whats right for you, not for him, its your body after all.

and its only a month, theres always the option of condoms until your infertile again.

My boyfriend says he won't care either way, but its just the whole being careful thing for like a month or so and I think he's just worried about that. He wants kids with me, we're just not finacially ready yet. Thats the ONLY thing holding me back really about getting the Implanon taken out. I'm just worried what he'll say or if he'll be mad eventhough he says he won't. Lol.

I wondered that with mine...ive put on a little bit and i think its partly my fault but also i think the implant is holding my weight.

it doesnt have eostrogen in it so it shouldnt make users pile on weight but i think it contributes!

If you start putting on weight even tho your exercising then maybe it is better to get it taken out.

Best of luck :)
