I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I just found out. I've been on the pill since April, taking it religiously at 10 every night. Not missing it once. I Would have to say, the only safeguard is abstinence. Lol

If you were my patient, I would advise you that it is possible to get pregnant on any type of birth control, However, pregnancy rates on the Mirena are very low--it is 99% + effective.
It does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases however, so it is always a good idea to use condoms as well.
