thinking of going off birth control

i have been on some form of birth control since i was 16 (i think, or 17). i am 20 now. i have been on yaz for the last 2 years. i can't see my gyno, being out of state now, but i will talk to her about this of course before doing it.

what should i expect? i went on it initially because i had heavy periods and bad cramps. when i get my period now, it's light with minor cramps. i never had acne or anything, but i think it might have helped clear up my skin a little. i'm 20 now, and probably won't have issues with this. but does anyone know about side effects? should i monitor myself closely while i do this?

thanks!

i went off birth control two months ago and i have never been happier.  yes, my period is heavier and i get cramps and i got a few pimples.  that's the only bad thing.  sex is so much better (for the first time in my life i actually WANT to have sex), i lost 10 pounds the first month because i didn't feel like eating all the time like before and i just feel generally happy, whereas before i always felt like there was a dark cloud hanging over my head.

definitly talk to a doctor before hand and make sure you have a good plan for not getting pregnant.  my husband and i are trying to NOT get pregnant but at the same time if we do get pregnant, we'll be ecstatic.

I also have stopped bc for two months now!!! I agree with somethingelse7, I don't fell hungry all the time, and my sexual desire has increased significally. I have only noticed good side effects, with the exception of the heavier bleeding and minor cramps. Good Luck!

I stopped my birth control around 4 months ago(YAZ) and I have never felt better.  I had been on them since I was 13 and I am now 33.  I too have my sexual desire back again and have lost weight.  My husband and I use a different form of contraception instead, so that, at this time, we do not get pregnant.  I get a few pimples 2 days before my period and the first period is very heavy with bad cramps but then after that  one day, I am fine.  I still only get my period for 4- 5 days.  I went on the bc due to extremely heavy bleeding lasting for 2 weeks and constant cramps along with vomiting.  I obviously grew out of it after 20 years.

Good luck
