Eonosophils

Hi i need help.
Three weeks ago and without having problems with my stomach in the past, i started having severe diarhea, stomach blow and it was worse when i would eat. I took a blood test and my eosiphils were 15% , 3 days later they were 21%. I have had a gastroscopy, colonoscopy, my blood was checked by a specialist to exclude cancer, liver and everything was ok. Stool exam showed no parasites. I started taking losec and flagyl as the gastroscopy biopsy showed i had gastroenteritis and slight corrosion in stomach. I am on antibiotics for 7 days now, diarhea stopped for the last 4 days but stool still not normal. Also i had a blood test again to see if eosiphils lowered but on the contrary its higher now, it is 25%. What could cause the high eosiphils ?? I still feel my stomach in bad shape and have a lot of gas feeling my bowel moving often.

At this point i d like to add that i was bit by a tick 1,5 month ago but checked myself twice for lyme disease and it was negative. Also where i live ticks don t really carry it and Twenty days after the bite my blood test had normal eosiphils count.

Were the stomach problems what prompted the CBC DIFF that discovered the eosinophilia?

I have eosinophilia. Have you seen a hematologist?

Mine was discovered because of an ear infection. I have had stomach problems as you described above for the past 2 years. It's on and off. It started around the same time I began having facial nerve pain. My GP sent me to a neurologist and I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. That was in 2013. The stomach problems I discussed with both docs were not considered important. Until, the CBC diff done at time of ear infection showed elevated eosinophils. I was then referred to a hematologist oncologist.

I'm still in the "testing" phase. Hemo doc has had me tested for everything under the sun. All normal but blood work.

A few weeks ago, an unexplained fever caused the trigeminal neuralgia to go into hyper drive. Hemo doc had me come in for labs, eos still elevated, so yesterday, I had a bone marrow biopsy.

A hematologist is going to be the only one to help you find the cause of your elevated eosinophils. From the research I have done, elevated eos wreak havoc on the body. If there's not a "purpose" for them to be elevated (a parasite, allergies...) then they will attack the stomach, liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, and/or central nervous system.

If yours are going up that high that quick, I would look for a hemo doc that is familiar with eosinophilia. If your eosinophil levels stay above 15% for 6 months or more, it's then considered hypereosinophilic  syndrome.

This one is one that's best caught and dealt with early before any major organ damage has occurred.

Best of luck. I'm going through this myself.

Yes i discovered the high eosinophils due to my stomach problems. Though i have no parasites, allergies etc. i will have a blood test in one and a half week and let you know. An hematologist checked my blood and said that found nothing weird. Last time i checked my eisiphils were 25%. This started out of the blue as in a test i had done on july 15th eosinophils were at normal range. My doctor wants me to have a bone marrow biopsy as well if my next blood test shows high eosinophils again.

I ve had no neurological signs , only the stomach problems.

I will do the blood test in a week and a half and let you know. I am freaked out.

What did your marrow biopsy show?

Thank you for the information

Still waiting on the results of the bone marrow biopsy.  They said 7-10 business days to get the results back. I have a follow up with my hematologist September 1st to go over everything.

I'm just hoping for answers. Trigeminal neuralgia is a nightmare. And now it's non stop. They have upped my lyrica from once a day to 4 times a day. Now I'm a complete zombie.... : (

Would prefer to find the cause than just try and mask everything with meds.

My eos have never been as high as 25%. Highest they've been is 14.1%. But, with the TN and stomach problems I'm guessing they're trying to find out if it's the eos causing damage.

And recently a urinalysis showed protein in urine and some of my liver tests are slightly "off"....

From what I've read, eos less than 15% can still cause damage if sustained for long periods of time....  This has been going on for about 2 years.

I'm just ready to feel good again. I'm a runner and a swimmer do this has really sidelined me and I'm ready to run/swim again.

Keep me posted.

Did not know that eos can cause damage at 14%. I believe my prOblem started now as my blood tests since january were at normal ranges. I hope i ll catch it at early stage. As soon as i get back home as i am abroad i ll make the blood test again. I will let you know by the end of the upcoming week

It's just from my understanding of what I've read.

It makes sence though. Kinda explains a lot.

I'm just soooooo ready for docs to figure it out so it can get fixed. I'm ready to run and swim again.

There are some informative docs online about eosinophilia. Word of warning, it's mostly medical literature and I spend half the time getting definitions for the medical terminology . Seems to be a pretty rare disorder so there's not besides med journals. I've never heard of this. Have you?

hi how are you? I wanted to let you know that out of 25% my eosinophils dropped to normal. Weird thing....came out it was my stomach that caused them to rise. A parasite or something like this. I took antibiotics, and strong probiotics. The parasite died i guess, then I got better but slowly. how about you

Mine are up again
They've never dropped to normal
Now I've tested positive for ANA
Doc sent me to a rheumatologist
All clear for autoimmune disorders
However
Friday the nurse called and left a voicemail message
She said they just received blood test results from the Mayo Clinic and to call her Monday morning to talk about the results
Their office closed at noon on Friday

I'm in a bit of a state of panic
