Worried about blood clots

18 months ago I had a bad accident at work multiple injuries. Two of the many injuries were    #1 A broken femur in two places requiring internal fixation and taking knee apart and   #2 A crushed pelvis repaired one week later with plate and screws. This had to wait a week because of my week condition from other injuries. The last surgeon would not put me on blood thinner because he was concerned about internal bleeding. He did install an IVS filter because a blood  clot had already started in one leg.

Fast forward 6 weeks and still no blood thinner even tho I was non-weight bearing, immobile and inactive. I used a slide board to transfer from bed to wheelchair to commode. One morning both of my legs were swelled a lot. I called Dr. And they said not to worry it's only fluid, just prop up my feet   (workers comp. Dr.)  Next morning legs were worse, so my wife took me to the ER. The ER nurse took one look at my legs and rushed me to an exam room. They immediately started me on a strong blood thinner in an IV. After ultrasounds and cat scan they found massive blood clots in both legs from ankles through pelvis to the IVC filter near my kidneys. The next day they did a CDT for 72 hours and busted up 80 - 90 % of the clots. Now the hematologist tells me the blood vessels and flap valves in both my legs are damaged for life. She said to prop up legs when I sleep to prevent blood pooling and pain. If sitting or riding in a car get up and walk often because of the bad valves.
They took me off blood thinner 5 months ago, but I was wondering if I should take a couple of aspirin a day to help ward off any future blood clots.

PS WORKERS COMP doctors can't wait to get you out the door and passed off to another Doctor any doctor.

Late reading, but in my mind an aspirin if it doesn't upset your stomach, and taken with food is a reasonable "extra" safe guard, in effect a low dose blood thinner.  I'm not saying low dose aspirin, I'd take a full dose, thing that is 325 mg or thereabouts.
