The level of hemoglobin depends on degree of involvement and on whether the thalasemmia is minor or major. Those with minor variant can have normal hemoglobin or mild anemia.  Normal values of hemoglobin in adults is 12 to 18 grams per deciliter (may vary from lab to lab). So in minor it may hover around 10-11. In major variant it can be very low, and will usually be less than 9 or 10.
Take care!
