Thanks Dr. Mathur for your quick response.   I did have a 3 level cervical spine with fusion surgery in March.    Also, I suffered a stroke in the occipital lobe, which caused me to loose my central vision.    I just had an MRI, yesterday, and my neurosurgeon said the spinal cord was not compressed, but, I'm not sure of the spinal nerves, or is that the same thing?

I am seeing a neurologist that specializes in strokes who did an echo which revealed thickening of the mitral valves, as well as regurgitation and this was also present with the tricuspid and pulmonary valves (regurt).   Could this be causing the lightheadedness (no spinning) when I wake up or when I stand up after sitting for a while?

Thanks,
Lori

Hi! You need to get examined to rule out a few things such as low blood pressure, postural hypotension (fall in blood pressure on standing), cervical spinal nerve compression, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), severe anemia, an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), GERD or gastric reflux, and internal ear infections. Take plenty of fluids and see if it helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.  Do consult your doctor. Take care!
