Hi Petyyy
Basically.... There are two Bartholin's glands lie next to the entrance to the vagina. They make a small amount of mucus-like fluid. A fluid-filled swelling (a cyst) sometimes develops from a blocked duct that drains the fluid from a Bartholin's gland. Sometimes a gland gets infected, which may then develop into a collection of pus (an abscess).
Some women Have a bartholin cyst and never know about it...doesnt cause any trouble, but if the cyst gets infected thats when you get pain and end up seeing a doctor :). Many different bacteria's can cause the abscess, so usually the doctor will take a swab and send it off to be checked. Sometimes it can also be caused by a Urinary tract infection Bug.
Another common bacteria that can cause it is the same bug that causes Gonorrhoea. Like i said, many different bacterias can cause it. Best to speak to your doctor to find out whats causing yours :)
Make sure you have salt baths to help clear it up :)
But what cause a bartholin abscess?n thanx again guys for your help I really appreciate it.

Hi Petyyy
I am not a specialist / im just a patient using this forum, however i have worked in a HIV unit for 4 yrs and Bartholin Cysts/ absesses are not a typical Finding with HIV. They dont generally go hand in hand.
Bartholin Abscess is an Infection in the bartholin gland and anyone can get an infection there if the conditions are right. HIV positive or not.
If you are concerned about being HIV it takes a simple Blood test to check. Speak to your doctor.
