Up to 40% of pituitary tumors do not show up on MRIs. Reason can be as easy as the radiologist missed it or that it fell between the slices - as MRIs do 3mm slices and pit tumors can be that small.
Sometimes surgeons can see what a radiologist missed.
Therefore, testing means more than an MRI.
If the symptoms seem pituitary, get more testing and get more and more testing.
Teeny tumors can still wreak havoc. Size does not matter with pit tumors.
Oh, no hydrocortisone yet, just testosterone injections 1x/month. I'll ask about that. Thank you.
Thanks enzymelover and rumpled. Yes, that was the original reason for schduling the MRI - to examine the pituitary gland. Dr. thought I likely had symptoms of secondary pituitary hypogonadism. Pituitary looked fine on the MRI though, no pituitary tumors, so now I have to wonder whether it is this arachnoid cyst causing me these symptoms or yet something else.
The symptoms of an arachnoid cyst can vary by location, but as enzy said, your symptoms sound pituitary. LH and FSH are pituitary hormones. I would find an excellent neuro-endocrinologist.
All of your symptoms are signs of pituitary disfunction. Are you getting replacement hormone treatment, especially hydrocortisone, to support adrenal cortisol? Very important.
I wouldn't know if the arachnoid cyst is contributing to any of your symptoms.
Sinus problems can be caused by loss of adrenal cortisol. My son has this problem.
