Labs show high igf-1 levels mri shows 8mm tumor

I've been having severe headaches for almost 8 months now and recently had an MRI that showed an 8mm pituitary tumor.  My neuro ran some labs because I couldn't get into an endo for 2 months.  The labs showed that I have a high igf-1 level.  Normal range was up to 261 and mine was 490.  Is this just borderline high or could the high igf just be a fluke?   I don't feel comfortable sitting around another 2 months before knowing more.

Did your doctor run any scans or tests to determine the cause of the pain, or is he just treating a symptom without cause  or source known?  You are just saying left eye - so it is one side - is it migraines or trigeminal neuralgia? I would go get evaluated and treated properly once diagnosed properly.

I would make an appointment with a neuro-endo. I would send what records you have in advance if they ask, and keep records you have (make sure you always get copies of everything - scans, blood work, MRIs on CD) and take it with you so they can copy it.

It sounds like you may have acromegaly. Your current doctor may be looking for you to have more of the physical hallmarks before he acts, but that is just wrong.

They can run more tests now, and act now.

You need more testing, and it can be treated with medication - the ball just has to get rolling. Your instincts of not waiting are correct.

I'm no expert, but that doesn't look borderline high to me.  Have you asked to be put on the cancellation list with the endocrinologist?  If you are noticing major symptoms, you might also try seeing if you can leave a message with the endocrinologist's nurse about that and ask if she/he can get you in any sooner.  Nurses often are able to give appointments sooner than the receptionists can.  Also, you might want to call a couple of times a week and see if any appointments have become available sooner.
