Tumor cells which demonstrate enhanced activity on scans are termed as metabolically active lymph nodes. Tests like flourodeoxy glucose PET scan can demonstrate lymph nodes which take up glucose.Phosphorylated FDG remains trapped in tumor cells and very less leaves the cell. This is a marker of increased cellular metabolism. Usually metabolically active lymph nodes mean malignant nodes. But any test report has to be correlated clinically before coming to any conclusion. I sincerely hope it helps.
Take care and good luck!
