Abnormal mamogram

I recently had a mamogram, my second, the first records were destroyed in an earthquake.  They found three lumps on my right breast, one on my left.  I had complained to my doctor and two before him about pain in both and brown discharge from the right.  I got the call about what they found, I was sent for an ultrasound.  When I got to the diagnostic center, they did another mamogram to have something to compare my two week old mamogram to.  After the mamogram, it was decided that I just needed to come back for another mamogram in six months rather than have an ultrasound.  I am really scared that it could be serious as I am still have severe at time pain in my right breast and pains in my left breast.  Should I persue this further with my doctor and insist that I have the ultrasound that he sent me for.  both my maternal and fraternal grandmothers along with an fraternal aunt had breast cancer.
Thank you for your time !!!  Pam

Thank You for your help.  I will get a copy of my results and I will ask for an explanation that I feel comfortable with.  You have really put my mind at ease.  I will continue with follow-ups.

If you didn't ask or get a copy of your mammogram report you should do both. From what you state they must think that you are experiencing Fibrocystic breast disease ... this does cause pain and only requires frequent follow-ups (the 6 month re-check). This is a benign condition but does require watching. I certainly would contact your Physician for a detailed explanation of the mammogram results. Just be sure you follow the recommended re-checks in the future.  Regards....
