Bilateral Duct Ectasia

i have undergone mammography and sonomammography.

FINDINGS of MAMMOGRAPHY:
- multiple translucent areas are seen at the subareolar region of both breast s/o duct ectasia of both breast. The translucency appear more prevalent in the left than right breast.
- no microcalcification seen nor there is architectural distortion.
- the symmetry of breast is well maintained.
- no nipple retraction seen
- no skin thickening/calcification seen
IMPRESSION: BILATERAL DUCT ECTASIA

Findings of Sonomammography :

- multiple translucent lesions are seen at the subareolar region of either breast S/o duct ectasia. On color doppler study- no appreciable vascular enhancement is seen. The largest diameter is 4mm in right breast and 3mm in left breast.
- Right Axilla shows: solitary regularly outlined enlarged lymph nodes which measure 10mm
- Left Axilla shows:    solitary regularly outlined enlarged lymph node which measures 8mm

IMPRESSION: duct ectasia (both) breast(right>left). The enlarged axillary nodes appear to be inflammatory.

Hi,
I don't think you have reasons to worry.Your mammogram and Ultrasound is not alarming.
Mammary duct Ectasia is not a sign of or a risk factor for breast cancer. It occurs when a milk duct beneath your nipple becomes dilated, the duct walls thicken and the duct fills with fluid.
This benign condition usually improves without treatment. However, if your symptoms persist, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or possibly  recommend surgery to remove the affected milk duct.
You also have an enlarged lymph node in the axilla area and it doesn't mean it's something bad. This usually indicates infection or inflammation somewhere in the body as your radiologist stated on your report..
I am sure your doctor will be able to explain every thing to you in details.
All the best....

You are welcome,
Please don't worry... Duct Ectasia is a BENIGN condition ( NO cancer) and will not affect your health,or any other part of your body..
As I mentioned in my previous comment, this condition often improves without treatment, but if it persists, your doctor could prescribe an antibiotic and a pain reliever for breast discomfort. These medications could greatly improve your symptoms.,but if the antibiotic do not clear up this problem, then surgery to remove the affected ducts could be an option and you should follow your doctor's advice,if he/she recommends it okay?.
Take care now....
