Bra...and phantom pain

I thought I had posted this question, but didn't see it posted so if it's a repeat please forgive.  When can a safetly wear a sports bra or non-underwired bra after a mastecomy?  I am in the process of reconstruction (expanders) with my 1st fill last week.  If it's safe to wear one...can I stuff some filler in there to look as normal as possible.  All my clothes pre-cancer were form fitting and I am not at a lose to dress without showing my deformity.  I know this sounds terribly vain...but it's so overwhelming.
Also, when will the numbness go away....and anybody experiencing phantom pain?  This pain seems worse in the early evening hours.  Thanks ladies

Thanks  Sue for your wonderful help!

So phantom pain is a good thing (except the pain) because it means the nerves are regenerating.  That makes me accept the pain with gratitude!  Yes, the other night my nipple was itching....lol...but no nipple!

I will now look at the new phantom pain with a praise report because the numbness is a work in progress.  :)

Thanks again for your time and support.  Best wishes to you and your family!

Phantom pains will come and go. They are nerves regenerating. Wait until you get the itch on the nipple and then realise there is no nipple anymore.

I'm surprised your surgeon didn't send you home with a preference for a bra during the expansion process. Expanders will fit best into sports type bras that connect in the front. Don't be surprised that during the process they will change shape into some really odd things... which will also go away. I don't see why you can't add a little something something to your "holder" to make it appear to be the same size/shape but I found that no one ever noticed when I only had one breast.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery!

I can't comment on the phantom pain but as far as being vain, I would think we would want to feel the best we can and put all this behind us. I don't think it is at all vain. You deserve to look good. I pray your pain subsides soon.
