Breast lumps

I recently found a lump(s) in my right breast. When I went to the doctor she said they were both the size of a quarter and ordered a mammogram and an ultrasound.  They couldn't set up the appointment for those for six weeks. Now 11 days later, the size has changed to the size of a golf ball. Also, it is extremely tender and is hurting from my breast to underneath my arm. What I'm wondering is if anyone else has had the lumps change size so quickly and should I wait for the follow up appointments or try to schedule them somewhere else. Also, I have cut down on my caffeine intake since the original appointment.

I agree (don't wait) but also keep in mind that breast cancer is rarely painful. If your lump is fast growing, it could be a fibroadenoma or a phyllodes tumor. Both are usually benign conditions. The doctor will probably order a needle biopsy to know exactly what you are dealing with. I have a 6cm lump in my right breast that I am going in for excisional biopsy next week. The needle biopsy showed a benign condition (fibroadenoma) with atypical cells. My lump seemed to apear and grow over night, so I know why you are freaking out. I was too. I would be assertive and get in asap but also stay calm. There is a good chance that this lump is benign. Hope it works out. Keep us posted.

PLEASE PLEASE DON'T WAIT!! Call your doctor and tell them the lump has changed and have them call to schedule the mammogram and ultrasound for you. If they can't move it up call someone else. There are many different kinds of breast ca and some are very aggressive and fast growing. You have to take charge and get the necessary tests done just in case. Yes caffeine can cause lumpy breasts but don't take any chances. If your lump has grown that quickly something is going on and you should not wait six weeks if in just 11 days it has changed that drastically. If they tell you you have to wait six weeks you must tell them that you have a lump that is changing in size - they will get you in.
