Breast reduction AFTER radiation

Has anyone had a breast reduction following their lumpectomy/chemo/radiation treatments?  My thinking is that by reducing the size of the breast area I would 1.  be happier!, and 2. maybe get rid of some of the tissue that might decide to go BC again.  I'm 49, triple-neg., 2 lymph nodes.  Had 6 rounds of TAC and 33 radiations.  My surgeon thought it was a good idea, and sent me to the plastic surgeon who does the reconstructions.  He thought I was a good candidate, and said although it's a rather new area it's getting some good results.  Anybody?  tHANKS!

I had one done 3 years after radiation.  I am a little disfigured on the right side due to the radiation debris.  You may want to wait a little before having it done just to make sure.  I don't regret having it done.  They took 2lbs from each side.  I feel awsome!  I don't mind that it's not exactly like the left.  I'm grateful I was healthy enough to have a reduction..

I'm in agreement with often. I had a lumpectomy chemo and rads 13 years ago and they never told me back then that radiation can cause your breast to shrink up to 40%. It took about 2 years but it did. At that point I needed a reduction on the good breast and an implant on the radiated side to try and make them symetrical. It took a few attempts.

Now they are both gone and I've had a tram as it came back in the other side. I was also trip neg.

Good luck

If you have had the radiation, you might want to consider that over time the radiation will cause the treated breast tissue to harden and shrink.  That may have an effect on size after the reduction.  You might want to talk to the docs, including your rads onc.

I am thinking to do the same. After the lumpectomy and radiation I got inverted nipple and smaller breast. I am waiting for my onr year anniversary to see if the cancer comes back. Please keep me posted of your decison and how it would come out. Norah
